Arwen Skye- Arwen is a Character from J.R.R. Tolkiens' The Lord of the Rings. It's an elvish name that means Noble Lady. Skye was just a name that we loved and we thought it had a nice ring with Arwen. Unfortunately, with our last name being Santiago, I think she just may kick our butts one day for giving her the initials A.S.S. OOPS!!!

Lorien Elisabeth- (there is an accent over the o) Lorien comes from another name in J.R.R. Tolkiens book The Lord of the Rings. The full name is Loth Lorien which means Flower Garden and is the place where Galadriel lives. (Galadriel is a high elf in the story and the grandmother of Arwen.) Elisabeth was my aunts name, my mom's middle name, my middle name and my sister's name.

I fell in love with the name Liberty when my husband was off to war (iraq) and when my husband heard it he loved it as well. We had a hard time comming up with the other name, we wanted to do all Ls. My husband liked leann but I hate that name, I wanted lillyana but of course my DH hated that name. So we kinda put them together, Leighanna.

Ellison Lee- we call him Eli, Ellison is my maiden name and Lee is my Dh's deceased dad's name

Cooper Stephen- Cooper was a friend of Dh while serving in the first Iraq War and Stephen is my dad's name

ETA- Peyton and Eli Manning have a brother named Cooper so we joke if we have another child we will name him or her Peyton [IMG]

Very pretty. I am big fan of Tolkien so I already knew where you got your names [IMG]

Kevin Michael - Kevin actually was my husband's pick. His uncle and godfather is Kevin and since I am Irish I wanted their names to reflect my ancestry. Kevin means Gentle and he was the gentle one in utero (and is still sweet). Plus Saint Kevin was a gentle quiet hermit much like my Kevin. Michael is my DH's middle name and sounds great with Kevin.

Patrick Thomas - Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. I wish I could say that is why we acually chose the name but it is not... I am embarassed to say that originally my DS chose Thomas because he is a big Thomas the Train fan. I wasn't totally thrilled by it but I figured its a nice name and John would be more involved in the naming. One day we were driving somewhere and John out of the blue said he didn't want to name the baby Thomas because there are too many Thomas in the world. I asked him why and he said that there were wooden, electric, diecast... I laughed so hard. So I asked him what other names he liked. He said Spongebob which was immediately shot down. Then he said Patrick (yes thats right, Patrick Star) and I thought, that sounds nice (it was originally supposed to be Kevin's middle name anyway). So Patrick Thomas was born. So yes my second is named after a Cartoon Sponge and a Blue Train but he will never know that. [IMG]

JDMummy...THAT IS AWESOME!! I LOVE that you involved your son in his name. When John is older he will feel very proud (though I'm sure he is already) that he had a real say in naming his little brother! Very cool!

    Hi,

Thomas Felix was named after DH's grandfather Thomas Felix who passed away nearly 40 years ago and DH's name is also Thomas. I wanted a jr but DH thought it would get too confusing when he gets older with paperwork etc. if they had the exact same name.

Faith Rose was named after my grandmother who passed away 12 years ago and my mother. Faith was my grandmothers first name ad Rose is my mothers middle name.

We (or should I say I) had already decided that if we had a girl she would be named Faith rose. So when we were picking out a boys name we wanted it to also be a family name. Good thing they were right on the U/S while I was pregnant because DH and I were talking about what other names we would use if we ended up having 2 boys or 2 girls. We could never think of another boys name or girls name while I was pregnant. I was so worried that we would be frantically trying to think of one while at the hospital.

My guys names go along with everyone's in the family.

Zackary Eugene comes from DH's middle name and his fathers middle name.

Jackie Lee is my father name, and Lee is my middle name, as well as the middle name of DH's siblings who are twin brother and Sister Johnny and Amanda Lee.

The girls first names were just because we liked them but their middle names are the ones with the meaning.

Madisons middle name is Grace, we originally were going to call her Grace but dh didnt like the middle name that I had chosen for Grace. Most of you know we lost our first daughter a year prior to me having the twins, so when we got pregnant so fast and that it was twins after losing Kaitlyn, we felt it was by the Grace of God that it happened.

Brookes middle name is Hope, when we first started talking about trying again we said if it was a girl we would name her Hope Ashley (Ashely after my cousin who died from cancer at 17) but since it was twins, we knew the risks were alot higher, and given how tough we had it in the past I was worried something would happen again and I didnt want to hurt my cousins mom if the baby didnt make it so we took off Ashley. So anyways, it was our Hope to have another baby, and it happened to be 2 girls.

Now my other two kids, ds is named after dhs twin brother who passed at 9 months old. I had many arguments with his sisters who had kids before us because they wanted to use the name but since it was dhs twin, we really wanted to use the name. I look back now and think of how blessed we were that our Stephen made it, we know his uncle is watching over him from Heaven

Kaitlyn is a name Ive loved forever, it was chosen before I ever met dh. Her middle name is my moms name, when I was pregnant I really wanted to honor my mom and let her know how much I love her.

Emilie Michelle-Emilie is a family name (we have one in every generation) and Michelle is my middle name.

Trevor File-Trevor is a boy's name both DH and I have loved for a long time, it was the name we had for older DD had she been a boy. File is DH's middle name (and his dad's middle name and grandmother's maiden name).

My oldest, Caroline Emilie-We were going to name her Emilie but then decided there were already too many in the family. So we liked the name Caroline. We found out that my great-grandmother Emilie had a great-grandmother named Caroline. So it actually turned out to be a family name. Emilie well same as my DD Emilie, see above.

Braedyn Lynn- my oldest dd got her name while I was watching TV one day and there was something about Eric Braeden on (he plays Victor on the Young and the Restless) and I thought Braeden was very pretty, so I changed the e to a y to make it more feminine, and added Lynn which is my middle name and my mother's middle name.

Ava Francis- she was originally going to be Avery, but my husband orders office supplies among other things at his office, and all he could think of was Avery office supplies, so we changed it to Ava, because it sounded old fashioned and feminine, and added Francis(spelled the masculine way) for my paternal grandfather, who I had lost about six months before we found out we were pregnant.

Liam David is named after my grandpa William (we just shortened it) who I had lost a few years before, and David is my DH's father.

You know how twin babies are A and B in the womb? Well, my nickname is B, so I told DH that we couldn't have two B's...so we changed B to C. So, during the pregnancy we always referred to them as A and C. So, we decided to keep it simple and give our little girl Ainsley an A name, and our little boy Carter a C name. Carter just fit, pretty much the only C boy name that we liked. Ainsley my DH came up with...she was a character for a bit on our favorite show, The West Wing.

Their middle names hold special meaning. DH had two cousins die young, both from the same family. Renae (6) and Ryan (14) died in two separate, tragic accidents and those names remind me that the time with our children is so very, very precious.

So that is how we came up with Ainsley Renae and Carter Ryan. Isn't it funny how the names just fit so perfectly after they are born?

That's why my twins are Peyton and Eli. We also have Brady for Peyton's middle Because dh likes Tom Brady of New England Patriots. Hunter is Eli's middle name because a co-worker of dh's mentioned a few names and we really liked that one. The order for who got which name was also decided by the Mannings because Peyton is older than Eli.

Carys Lorraine- Carys is my middle name and Lorraine is my dh's mother's middle name.

Elora Kathleen- Elora is named after a Provincial PArk in Canada where we first went camping. We always thought Elora would be a beautiful name for a girl. Kathleen is my sister's name.

I wanted Welsh names for both of the girls, but Patrick didn't like any of my suggestions so we picked Elora. After she was born, I was looking through the welsh baby name book again adn I found the name Elora.

double-or-nothing, I knew it! I am a huge Tolkein fan too. [IMG]

Sarah (JDMummy), that's funny about Patrick Thomas. I always suspected your little train fanatic had something to do with his name, but I didn't think he picked Patrick too. [IMG]

    Now for my kiddies--

David Alexander - Captain Kirk's son is named David. Worf's son is named Alexander. [IMG] Yes, Star Trek fans are we!

Emma Meredith - My mom picked Emma because DH and I cannot pick girl names and Meredith is my Grandpa Gene's first name.

James William - James is after my DH's little brother who passed away at the age of 5, William is DH's favorite name.

Sean Michael - Sean is a name I've always liked, Michael after my DH.

I purposely picked short first names and long middle names. Short first names so when they have to sign their names they don't have write as much, long middle names so they KNOW they're in trouble, lol!

The first night after I found out I was pregnant I had a dream of being in a light rain which then stopped and I was surrounded by many many rainbows and soft white clouds. In the buddhist tradition this type of dream is a very good omen and I drew strenght from it during my very difficult and scary pregnancy.
We named our girls Iris and Nefeli. Iris means rainbow and Nefeli means cloud (in Greek).

My babies names are Asha and Roshan

Asha is prounouced Ah-shah and Roshan is pronounced Ro-shen (the "a" is short like in Ethan or Nathan).

These are just names we liked, I am Indian and my husband is caucasian. Since they were both going to have my husband's last name, I thought they should have Indian first names. Their middle name is my last name.

Asha means hope and Roshan means illumination.

Thomas John- Thomas is after my mom and stepdad. It is their last name and I really wanted to involve my step dad in some way and use his name. John is after my grandfather and I have often said that Thomas has two men to be very proud he is named after them!

Emma Elizabeth - Emma is after my great grandmother and I have always loved this name and really wanted to use it. Elizabeth is after my grandmother (married to John) and it just went with Emma and Elizabeth is also Emma's daughter. They just fit perfectly!!

Manda Laine- (my name choice as my dh and I each got to name one) I have always liked the name Amanda, but it is so common and for the most part the Amanda's I know always ended up being called Manda, or Mandy. I hate when people have a full name and a nick name, why not just give them the name they will be called? KWIM? So since I would call her Manda, that is her name, not a fan of Mandy, as I am not a fan of Mandy Moore. Laine came straight off Gilmore Girls, I won't lie.

Sydney Michelle- Sydney's name came right off the movie Scream. My dh has always loved it, so no doubt that would be her name. Michelle was a pure inspirational accident. Once I told my name choice his whole family was like, "So you are going to name the other Michelle or Morgan?", While I like illiteration I feel it is best kept to poetry and away from my kids whose names will all begin with a different letter, but it makes a pretty middle name.

How neat!! I have often seen children's names on here and thought where did they get that name from? So this is cool to find out about a few!

Both of our twins first names are names that DH and I picked, DH picked Emily (not my favorite, but I couldn't imagine her being named anything else now), and I picked Samuel (actually, I am a social worker in a mental hospital and one of the patients was screaming at me one day that she needed to call her son Samuel, and I went home that evening and told DH I loved Samuel and he agreed). So actually Sam is named after a schizophrenic's son LOL!! But we both like old fashioned names.

They are both named after their grandfathers. DH's dad is John Mahlon (pronounced May Lon), and my dad is Edward Cooper. DH didn't have a choice about the middle names, I have always wanted to name my son Cooper (it would have been my name or any of my sister's names if my dad would had had a son, and once I found out FIL's middle name I fell in love with it.

I love my twins' names!!! [IMG]

DH and I started naming our kids on our third date, crazy, I know, if only then I knew we were going to have two at a time. I always wanted a girl, and he wanted a JR. We didn't know what we were having until they were born, and I was sure it was b/g or g/g. So when the Dr. said "I see two sets of external plumbing" I was sure glad they had me strapped to the operating table, b/c we had not thought of any boy's names.

So three days later in my morphine-induced head fog, I called DH into my room and told him we needed to name the boys, I was sick of calling them A and B, and it wasn't fair to name one of them Heather and the other one JR. And so we started talking. He like Elijah, and I liked Isaiah, but I didn't like the "ah".. too similar sounding for ID twins. So I said Isaac. And we gave them our dad's first names as their middle names - Elijah Thomas, and Isaac Julian.

Keira Lynn - Ever since I saw the movie Singles with Kyra Sedgwick (now on The Closer), I've liked that name. Then along came Keira Knightly (Pirates movies) & I liked the way she spelled it better & their dad thinks she's hot, so he went along with it. Lynn is my middle name & my dad's middle name.

Gage Lonnie - I've liked the name Gage since I read/saw Stephen King's Pet Semetary & the little boy on the movie was adorable (before he died). Their dad is a mechanic, so of course he liked that name! Lonnie is their dad's father who died in a race car about 6 years ago.

My husband is a big music man so the girls' names come from songs and also from family

Sarah Elizabeth--Sarah is from a Fleetwood Mac song and Elizabeth is from a Counting Crows song and is also the name of my husband's great-great-great grandmother

Allison Grace--Allison is from a Elvis Costello song (although it is spelled differently) and Grace is from an U2 song and is also the name of my great-grandmother

We also heard the name Ainsley on the West Wing and held onto it for a few years as our favorite girl name. When it came time to name the girls, Paul and I made a big list and narrowed it down to 4 that we liked: Ainsley, Sierra (Paul came up with it, probably due to a Spanish test he had recently taken [IMG]), Emma (I've always like this name), and Eowyn (from Lord of the Rings). We decided we really wanted to use Ainsley and, since didn't want names that sounded alike, Sierra was the natural choice for the other baby. The whole thing took 3-4 hours while we were on our babymoon in Hawaii.

We actually named Baby B first and gave her the name Sierra because she was much smaller and we wanted the stronger name for her. Baby A then became Ainsley. Their middle names are Esperanza for my grandmother and Jacqueline for Paul's mom. Deciding who got which middle name was pretty easy since we didn't want Sierra to get two hispanic names as in "Sierra Esperanza" so she got "Jacqueline" and Ainsley got "Esperanza".

Now this little boy that we are expecting now is not as easy to name. [IMG] Our list keeps getting narrowed down and then growing again. At this rate he may just come home for the hospital with the name "Baby Brother". [IMG]

Our first son is David Jewel "Jack" named after my paternal grandfather who was David Jewel and called Jack. He was a Welter weight boxer and earned the nickname Laughing Jack King.

The twins - Jenna Rose - my husband like Jenna and Rose is a family name and my sister's middle name. Jonah Lee - I like the similar sounding twin names and since we already had Jenna and Jack I thought we had to have another "J" name. I thought about Johnny (Johnny Cash) Jude but I wasn't thrilled with either. Then early one morning I just thought of Jonah and I thought it would sound good with Jenna. Come to find out, my dad is a minister and he said God called him to the ministry through the story of Jonah in the Bible. So, that is special too. "Lee" is my middle name and my mother's maiden name. So, the twins have my middle name and my sister's middle name. And I thought that was cool, too.

All that said, I thought of some other great names but my husband thought they were too "out there". He likes traditional names, although his name is not (Dannen). So, here are the names that didn't make it - for a boy - Lennon, Cash, King (my maiden name), Boston (my favorite), Bonham and for a girl - Sailor, Gemma.

Nevan is gaelic for little saint and norah is greek, like nick's name. I got Norah Marie from Norah Jones whom I love and Marie for my grandmother luz maria and dh's great aunt mary. Nevan, I found browsing name books and Laurence from his uncle.

Nick wanted to name one Republica. I suggeste he save it for HIS kids. The next children will be Nathaniel James (courtesy Nick) and Nya Luz. We needed for names because we didn't know what we were having.

DH is Puerto Rican/West Indian. I used to live in St.Croix and heard the name
"Essie-anna" I thought it was pretty, but tweeked it a little and came up with
"Eee-sigh-ahn" Bella for my mom's middle name

I always liked "Genevieve" and call her Eve for short. Husband liked Eve but didn't like Genevieve. So hunted around a bit and found an old Puerto Rican name "Ivelisse" Again tweeked it and came up with "Eve-ah-lease" Emelda for his mom's middle name.

    They fit. We love them.

I don't know if any of you have ever watched the OC but... I'm a huge fan. Anyways one of the characters was named Marissa... and her name in real life happened to be Mischa. Way back in the day we immediatley loved Mischa and Marissa and thought they sounded really good together. Unfortuneitly, this was a few years ago and we kind of forgot about it. When we found out that the twins were girls we first thought of both of our favourite girl name, Emma. My sisters name is Marissa and we thought Emma Marissa was really cute! However, we wanted our girls names to start with the same letters and couldn't find another name with the E M initials. The Marissa in Emma Marissa made us remember our original Marissa and Mischa idea. The only problem now was the middle names!! We thought we'd let my oldest, Brandon, give us a few names that he thought sounded good. He immediatly thought of his friends name, Amelia and we agreed that Mischa Amelia had a nice ring. Ashleen is my grandmothers name and my husbands mothers middle name so we decided on Marissa Ashleen.

    I love this thread!!!!
Let me just start by saying that our last name is Brown so we figured we needed unique names for the girls cause I can't even begin to tell you how many Paul and Beth Brown's there are out there.....10 Beth Brown's just in Orlando...ugh!!!

Emerson Brockway Brown....Emerson is the last name of the family that founded the town I grew up in....the lake there is called Emerson Park, our prom was called "The Emerson"...you get the idea so it just reminded me of home. Her middle name is Brockway, my MIL's maiden name and she was an only child.

Berkley Brewer Brown....to be honest we stole the name Berkley from a moderator here on twinstuff...just loved it and Paul loved it and I used to live in Northern California and loved going to Berkeley. Paul also thought it sounded like a "surfer chick" name...ha ha!! Brewer is my grandmother's maiden name and she passed away while I was young so I wanted to honor her. Also we liked the "Br" middle names with Brown...sounded catchy....

Joe and I kind of had a hand in both of the girl's name.

I wanted Riley and there was no changing my mind and her middle name is Rose for Joe's grandmother.

Joe picked out Skylar and I choose Elizabeth after my Mom's middle name for her middle name.

Oh and by the way - When they get in trouble they roll right off the tongue!!!
