I think I have heard there are some prescription meds that are safe during pregnancy, maybe Zantac? I used to down Rolaids soft chews (the chalky ones would make me sick). There is a limit of 6 per day, and I used to max that limit every day. I know where you are coming from. :hug99:

I had no morning sickness my entire pregnancy but man did I have acid reflux/heartburn bad, all the time and it got worse as time went on...I carried to my 39th week. I never went on prescription meds for it because I never complained, I couldn't stomach tums at all. Milk was all I needed, worked wonders for me.. I drank a small cup of whole milk everytime I had an attack, in the middle of the night, anytime it instantly put out the fire. Try it, if your heartburn/acid reflux does not subside tell your OB because they are pregnant friendly perscriptions.

P.S. It has to be COLD MILk and it disappered after I delivered...GL!

you should take tums and pepcid - both are available otc and work by different mechanisms so its ok to use both at once -i was eating tums like crazy until the end when my doc told me to addit pepcid. it worked great.

I have been on Prilosec prescribed by my OB since about 14 weeks. It has worked wonders! Even though I'm 31 weeks now I hardly ever get heartburn unless I accidentally skip a day or take my pill really late in the day. You should talk to your doctor about possibly prescribing you something. We already have to be in pain for so many other things, so why not get relief from this if you can!!

Some remedies that I've been told are:
    1. Chew gum (Here is an article from WebMD which discusses it)
    2. Keep elevated (i.e. prop up your pillows in bed)
    3. Eat lots of small meals instead of large ones
    4. Avoid spicy foods

Here is a great article with some suggestions for treatment. WebMed Article on Heartburn Relief

Prilosec!! It worked wonders... I had been taking Tums and those worked for a while but at about 30 weeks I finally talked to the doctor and he suggested Prilosec. I never had another night that I woke up with that horrible cough and burning throat...
    Hope it gets better soon!

I took Zantac 150 every single day! I had the absolute worste heartburn the last 3 months of my pregnancy. It sucks and I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure Prilosec would have worked well also but the Zantac worked for me so I used that

I started out with Tums, the on to Zantac and finally prescription Prilosec. Honestly, it never really went away and I was sleeping propped up on pillows like the Elephant Man toward the end pretty miserable. :hug99: I'm sorry!

Here at the hospital, I'm given Pepcid twice a day (@ 10 am, 10 pm) because I am on my side all day, never sitting up for very long. I also take tums when I need it. This routine has really helped me to avoid the horrible reflux, heartburn that I had. My inner right ear would even ache when I had it!

I had terrible reflux in my first trimester. I tried tums, pepcid and zantac. Those didn't touch it, so my OB prescribed me nexium. If I miss a pill now, I have a terrible time with my reflux and can't eat much at all. I hope you can get yours under control. It seems that different medications work for different people.

I did a couple courses of Tums/Rolaids with Prilosec OTC- you can buy it at the drugstore and you take it for 14 days. I also didn't eat acidic food or eat too close to bedtime. It was a real bummer, but the upside was it disappeared right after I gave birth.
