I just switched to formula a couple weeks ago with my twins. We had so many breastfeeding issues and I was at my wit's end, so I switched one to formula and continued to nurse his brother for 2 more days, which was also really difficult. So then I stopped nursing altogether and pumped. But I only pumped for about 5 mins at a time and worked out some plugged ducts in the meantime. So over the two weeks I've pumped less and less. Now I have a plugged duct that is hard to get out. I can't massage it while pumping because the pump covers it.
Has anyone else weaned abruptly? Was it horrible??

It sounds like you are doing everything right. I did not wean abruptly, but I did wean when my supply was still good. I exclusively pumped for my twins and when it was time to stop, it took about a month and a half before I was able to put the pump away. By that time, I was pumping 6 oz once a day. How much are you getting per day? If it is still a significant amount, you may be in for some serious discomfort if you stop all together. However, I did have some success with cabbage leaves when it came to reducing my supply after my singleton came so if you want to stop completely and gut through it, cabbage leaves may be worth a try. (Peel a head of cabbage and cut the coarse veins out. Place the leaves inside your bra as often and for as long as you can stand it. Replace when they get really wilted.)

The only thing I can recommend regarding the blocked duct is to put a hot cloth on your breast or take a hot shower while trying to massage it out, then pump. Try to be patient. I know pumping is a pain, but mastitis is worse!!! Good luck!

Thanks..I did use the cabbage leaves and continued to pump as needed. I don't know how much milk I actually had--it was enough to feed both twins but for some reason whenever I would pump, I would only get 5oz total. I think I'm ok now..not much milk left.
    Thanks!
