My doctor said to take the vicodin he prescribed. It works, but the headaches keep coming back! I emailed him and said I don't want to continue to depend on the vicodin (I'm only taking one pill per day, but still!) as I'm sure that the headaches aren't just going to stop in a day or two if it is hormones. He said he would try to think of an alternative at my next appointment (next Wednesday!).

Is it going to hurt the babies taking one pill (vicodin) per day? Or should I just suffer through it, just using tylenol and a soda? I don't know what to do.

Thanks everyone for your input so far--I really do appreciate it!

Hi Susanne....so sorry about your headaches....not fun at all!
My dr. prescribed me Vicoden as well for my migranes when I was pregnant. I felt uncomfortable taking them as well...I was taking half of one & if that didn't work then I went to Tylenol.
I say trust your instincts and your dr. & do what you need to do to feel better :)

I can't give you advice on the meds, but it might help to know I got AWFUL headaches from about 7 weeks-16 weeks, they eased up a LOT after that, now I get 1 or less a week. And, I didn't feel right about drinking coffee or caffeine outright, but I snuck in chocolate (which has caffeine) which seemed to help a little.

Sorry to hear about the headaches :( If the Vicodin doesn't help then I wouldn't bother with it. I have heard it is not that effective for migraine types of headaches anyway. I don't think a pill a day is a huge deal if your OB prescribed it. The main concern they have is for dependence (both mother and fetal) and I think you would have to take a bigger dose a lot more often for that to occur. Does the soda and Tylenol work for you. Just remember that the Vicodin has Tylenol in it to so count that towards your daily dose (4 grams or 4 doses of 500 mg a day). I hope your headaches start to let up a little.

I am now in the hospital until i have babies. I have constant back pain and headaches and they give me percocet. I don't think they would prescribe it if they were bad for you. Honestly i take 2 percocet 2x a day. Its alot but I am trying to get through the next week and six days... Maybe ob will give you something else.

    Good luck!

Thank you all for your input!! I really appreciate it. The vicodin helps for about an hour, then it poops out. I don't think I'm even going to bother with it anymore. Yes, the one hour of relief is wonderful, but it's not enough to justify taking the narcotic. Just going to stick to the tylenol or tylenol sinus along with a Coke. It helps for about the same amount of time that the vicodin does. Then I'm just going to CUT MY HEAD OFF!!! Heh, heh, just kidding. But sometimes I really do want to!!!
