about how old are babies when they sit up?

I was just wondering when babies can sit up on their own? I got my girls the prettiest little tutus for pictures and I know they won't be able to sit on their own for 3 month pics but maybe for 6 months?

Our boys say up just after they turned 6m old... it was the day of their baptism and are whole family was over. thye both started sitting up the say day and it was just a fae day after they turned 6m.

 

I'm trying to remember, (without searching out the baby books haha). I remember their 1st christmas photo, they looked like they were sitting, but we were holding the back of their dresses and they were just six months old then, so maybe seven months?? Although one walked at 9 months, so how they went from not sitting at six months to one walking I"m not sure. Ok maybe I shouldn't have replied I'm not much help.

Elizabeth has been sitting since just over 5 months. She can do it for long stretches of time. Thomas just started 2 days ago and can only do a few minutes.

As you can see they are almost 6 months old

 

My girls were 6.5/7 months but I think that's sort of on the late side.

 

Mine started sitting independently about 7.5-8 mo.

 

Mine are not quite there at almost 7 months -- they can "tripod" (where they support themselves with their arms) for a minute, but then they topple over.

My older one sat up right at 6 months.

 

ds started sitting up unassisted at 5.5 months, dd was right at 6 months. it's sooo fun when they start sitting up! now if i could get them to stay on their tummies long enough to push up/ rock. they just roll right over to their backs. :huh:

 

My kids will be 6 months in a few days. My boy can sit unassisted for a few minutes at a time, and my girl is much wobblier.

 

My girls were just over 5 months when they started sitting on their own for long periods.

LOL, I am with you. DD has been sitting for a few weeks now but still cannot roll front to back.

 

8 months for my chunky boys...we had to hold them up for professional pics at 7 months.

 

Mine are 5 months (adjusted). They like to sit up with support from me or dad but I don't see them sitting on their own in just 4 weeks. My advice would be to not count on them sitting up for photos by 6 months, but from the responses given, I would not be surprised if they were!

 

Mine are 7 months and they have just know started sitting on their own really good. Only if we put them in that position though. They don't know how to get there by themselves. On the other hand my oldest dd was sitting up at 5 months.

My boys started sitting at 7 months, and Katie can sit for a few seconds, then tumbles over.

 

It varies a lot. Meara was able to by 6 months, but we had to put her like that. Ana did the tripod thing from 7-8 months and then started sitting up fully a little after 8 months and only after she could get herself there (we could never put her sitting and leave her or she'd topple immediately). And Meara couldn't get herself into a sitting position until she started pulling up last month. So funny how different all our little ones are.

 

DD started at 5 months and DS started about two weeks later. By six months, they were both sitting up very well! Can't wait to see pics of your girls in their tutus! :wub:
