Yep, I failed the one hour. I asked how bad and the lady told me by 8 points. Is that good or bad?

Thats not that bad. I failed my 3 hour. They basically put me on a special diet. (Really boring) and i am loosing weight instead of gaining...

Thanks for your replies. I suppose 8 points above normal isn't too bad, so their is a chance I will pass the 3 hour?
Any ideas on how to make the 3 hor go by quickly? They said I could not leave.

I too failed the 1 hr glucose test...by SIX points! My doc had been saying I was basically going to fail and have GD due to the fact it was twins, I have PCOS, and thyroid disease. It was a no brainer! However...I PASSED the 3 hr test with flying colors! All 4 blood draws! Whoohoo!! :D

I think my Dr. was just as shocked! Some ppl say when you fail by a small amt, you usually pass the 3hr. Just watch what you eat the day before-I kinda did...I hope that's what helped! Good luck!

I have no ideas on how to make the time go by fast.. I was allowed to leave.. So i just went to my parents house (right down the street) and went back every hour.. It was very helpful because i felt like i was going to pass out/throw up the whole time..

BTW I failed my 1 hour by only one point. Not to scare you, but you never know whats going to happen. Just make sure you watch what you eat the day before..

i failed my one hour also. i took my three hour a couple weeks ago and havent heard anything from my dr (i see her thursday) so i assume i passed it. i read magazines, but it was still really boring. i guess just take it one hour at a time, that seemed to work for me

Eight points isn't bad at all. I failed one of mine by 4 points. Even one point and they have to follow up. When I was pregnant with the girls I had two gestational diabetes tests done (I forget at which weeks they were done at though) and failed both 1 hour tests and had to have the three hour tests done. I passed both three hour tests. My three hour tests were done right at the hospital because I'm a fainter when it comes to blood work. So, I got to watch tv for three hours.

However, this pregnancy my OBs office changed their procedure. They used to just do a finger prick test. Now they do a normal blood test for the one hour. They said that they got a lot of false positives and decided to jump right into one blood test instead. So, chances are you'll pass the three hour without any problems.

As far as making the time pass, have you read War and Peace? Just kidding. On a serious note do you have a portable DVD player or MP3 player that you can take with you? Or maybe a pregnancy journal that you are trying to finish?

I failed my one hour (I didn't ask by how much) then passed all parts of the 3-hour. I didn't bring anything with me -- just read magazines in the waiting room. It was very boring; I wished I had brought a book. My advice is to schedule first thing in the AM and bring food and/or juice with you to have as soon as you finish the test and then don't leave until you start to feel better. I made the mistake of assuming I could drive a couple blocks to a fast food restaurant and nearly fainted while driving.

I totally ditto this.... I've come very close to passing out...and that's just after my 1 hour GD tests... I don't know how I would survive the three hour!! Bring a banana or juice/crackers as a pick-me-up before you leave...

I hate to be a downer about this, but please be careful! I failed my 1 hour by 3 points so my Dr. told me should would just pass me since I was so close. I didn't do the 3 hour either. By 38 weeks I was induced with my daughter and she was 9.3 lbs; right after she came out, her blood sugar dropped to almost nothing (4) and she stopped breathing. She was fine after 10 days in the NICU on a sugar IV, but it was a scary birth.

I really wish my Dr. would have been more cautious and had not been so focused on how close I came to passing the test. I had blood sugar issues that weren't addressed and I wish I would have pushed her to do something about it. Thankfully, my peri is watching me much closer this time.
