Ok, so tonight, Lorien was asleep and as usual was snoring away. She has snored for as long as I can remember. Today, I was sort of watching GMA (ABC) and they had a bit about children who snore and have sleep apnea and how it greatly affects their getting a good nights rest and affects them in school and all that but I was only able to catch bits and pieces of what they were saying. So I started wondering if the fact that she is so young and snores already if she has something medically wrong with her. She has ALWAYS had sleep issues (didn't even start sleeping through the whole night until 14 months) and will wake up once in a while during the night still. Sometimes she'll stay awake for only a couple of minutes and doze right back off and other times she will stay awake for an hour or so (but I don't go in because she is not crying). She almost always wakes up (especially from naps) crying and wasn't able to give up that morning nap until recently. She is often very whiny and cranky and I'm just starting to put all this together and I'm wondering if maybe her snoring is not giving her solid rest??? Do any of you have snoring issues with either of your twins (or with any of your other kids?)? Is it even an issue? Should I bring it up as a concern to the doctor at their 18 month appointment (which is in a month and a half)?

Jonathan snored like a freight train from the time he was born until he was 3 years 1 1/2 months. It stopped the day he had his tonsils and adenoids removed. He also had episodes of sleep apnea, druled like crazy, and had a constantly running nose. As soon as he had his surgery, he stopped snoring, druling, and the runny nose stopped. Also, he started sleeping better, and eating better. He grew 4 inches in the 6 months following the surgery, and went from the 50 th %ile in height to the 95th %ile.

Based om my experience, I would definately ask!

Gosh, I could have written that post exactly about my Peyton!! She was diagnosed with sleep apnea at 2 1/2, and once her tonsils and adenoids were removed, NO MORE SNORING!! If you're at all concerned, I would recommend asking about a sleep study for sure. It certainly wouldn't hurt.

Same here (except for the excessive drooling) with my now 10 year old. The dr. wanted to do the surgery at two yrs old but we waited until he was three. Jackson also had ear/sinus infections that would not go away. It was one of the hardest decisions but it turned out to be the best thing ever.

I also wanted to add that before we had the surgery he gagged/choked on everything. No problems now.

    Good luck and definately ask!

Definitely talk to your doctor about this. I have snored since I was a baby and was just recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. I can't tell you what a difference treatment has made for me. If I had known about it years ago, it would have made a big difference in my life. My dentist even asked my mom if I snored when I was about 5 because he noticed that one of my passageways from my nose is really small.

I also plan to ask the doctor about it for my DD at their apt. this month. She snores just like her mommy!

From my own experience, I know that sometimes you have to convince the doctor to take your sleep concerns seriously and fight for a sleep study. This is worth the fight.

Large tonsils can cause a LOT of problems..I know this is what we went through with Bridget. She got her tonsils out about 2 months ago and has grown already, sleeps sooooo much better, and stopped snoring.

i would make an appt to talk it over at least. :)
