DH and I were grcery shopping and I encounter a twin mom by the baby food. She asks how old my little one is and when I tell her almost 10 months she gives me a weird look. (her babies are huge) So I proceed to tell her that Aidyn was born at 3 1/2 lbs and she goes on to tell that her girls were 4 lbers at 34 weeks...and now at 8 months they are 18 lbs. Ok, great...like I don't already worry about their size(Aidyn is barely 15 lbs). It's almost as if she were asking if I'm feeding them enough?! Then she asks if I have any help and I say no...well she looks at her nanny and tells me how she doesn't know how she would manage without her and how she has helped her get all those extra calories into her girls. Sorry I stay at home AND can't afford to hire help. Before she left she told me to make sure and check the calories in the baby foods and go for the highest calorie ones...DUH, like I don't already do that! I'm sure she wasn't trying to be mean but it's just such a sensitive subject with me b/c I WISH there was more I could to do put the weight on them. I wish my girls LOVED food and wanted to eat all the time but they don't. Just when I was starting to accept it I run into Super Mommy with her Mega Babies...and Wonder Nanny. Like I said...this was just a vent. [IMG]

You should have said, yes well all babies are different... more calories or not, metabolisms are different...

I hate when other mothers do so much comparing! It is nerve racking!

I would say you are more the Super Twin mom because you are doing it without a nanny! [IMG] As for their size, if they are healthy, don't worry about it. There are people of every size in the world!

Ah, yes, Super Twin Mom and and her sidekicks the Mega Babies and Wonder Nanny! I see you already encountered her most deadly weapon, The Disapproving Glare! *zap* *pow*

Well, try not to let her bother you. You're a Super Twin Mom, we all are, because we are all trying to do the best for our babies, and that's all that really matters! Don't let her Disapproving Glare bother you, you're a twin mom, you have Thick Skin! [IMG]

I wouldn't worry about it. My boys were "big" twins 6-2 and 6-10, and Marcus, the smaller one was 20lbs3oz at his 1 year check up. My neighbor who had 3 lb triplets, at 9 months they were all 25 lbs, with rolls upon rolls. She just fed them a bottle everytime they cried--I waited until mine were actually hungry, not crying from exhaurstion, boredom, or just wanting to be held.

Now at 4 1/2 years, they are 40 lbs and 48 lbs!

Let that one go...fast! You are a SUPER mom, too! More so because you are doing it all alone. I admire that so much. Screw her, IMHO [IMG]

I love when people like that offer their "help." I know it's hard to ignore comments and situations like that, but try. You are clearly doing a great job with your babies. Kids are different... they grow and mature differently and at different rates.

On a side note, my dd was only 19 lbs at 18 months. She is 22 months now and I'd guess she is only 20-21 lbs (guessing by the way her clothes fit). She still wears mostly 12 month clothes... and is just making her way into some 18 month stuff. She's not a great eater, but she's following her own growth curve, so we're not worried.

Not laughing at you, but with you!

She's a poo-face! Don't worry about it. You've got little ones, and that's ok! You know you're not starving them, your ped knows you're not starving them. Her babies will end up with Childhood onset diabetes, her nanny will sleep with her husband, and next time you see her she'll be pulling her hair out trying to find high calorie baby food!

    Just kidding; I don't wish ill on anyone. Still, she's a poo-face!

Thanks everyone! I feel better! Not to mention some of you had me ROTFL!! The one about the nanny sleeping with the husband was great!! I know I'm doing my best and giving it all I have so I am happy. Like I said, I'm sure she wasn't trying to be mean...it's all good.

It seems to me that you are the super twin mom.....you do it all by yourself and thats admirable. Don't let her get to you......you are a great mom.

Ok, so I have a 7 yr old who weighs 40 lbs. He's tall for his age and I can't get any weight on him. Knowing this, my little twinkies will more than likely be 7 yr old and 40 lbs if I can't get them to eat. And you think I don't try to stuff him? I think I'll have to encourage food fights in the hopes that some of the calories get through by osmosis. [IMG]

Oh, this isn't the night to read about some cow with her nanny when I have been alone with the boys all day and now all night. I tell you what, I felt like a SUPERMOMMA when I managed to give them both baths by myself!

Puff on her ... anyone who has twins is incredible but those of us who do it on our own deserve a little extra pat on the back. You go, girl.

We do the best we can because that is all we can do!

I have also had my encounter with "the super twin mom" a couple of days ago. She asked me how everything was going with my twins. I told her that we're going through a stressful time and they're not sleeping good.
She tells me: I raised twins, they are now 15 and I NEVER had a problem. Everything was so easy.
    Yeah right!

Oh man, I feel your pain! For some reasons there are literally tons of twin moms in the bay area (many/most are wealthy).I ran into one of these at the grocery store too, but she didn't have her twins with her because of course they were at home with the nanny. She had a million questions for me (most of which I hadn't even considered yet). And she practically INSISTED that I join the local moms of multiples club, and seemed shocked and disappointed that I hadn't already.

Yeah, ok, that sounds fabulous...I can't wait to spend my free time with 10 [IMG] more just like YOU.

Aw I'm sorry she made you feel so bad. Sounds to me like you are doing just fine! [IMG] FWIW, the weight of babies is not even close to being indicative of how they will be when they get older so her *mega baby* (hilarious by the way!) could be a string bean down the road and someone will tell HER she needs to feed HER kid more. My first daughter was almost 25 pounds when she was a year old (was compared to michelin man on several occasions) and now at 6 I can't get weight on her.. She is too skinny now! Trust me, someone will make her feel the way she made you feel. It's a little thing called karma..I love it. [IMG]

Sorry I just had to laugh at that one.

I'd say more of a Super B**** than super mommy. Not all of us can afford help raising our children and honestly even if we could afford it I wouldn't want it. Nothing against mommies who choose to work or mommies who have nannies but thats just not for me.

Your babies will be fine My brother was tiny just over six pounds full term singleton. He was tiny all through childhood and it wasn't until puberty that he started to grow. He's now 6'4" and definately not scrawny so things can definately change.

I think that people are only given what they can handle. It seems that "Supermom" was given an easy time AND a nanny. Good for her. But you are like me and have had it tougher. We can handle it and our babies will be stronger for it.

The weights are good - don't worry about it. You are doing great!

You should have popped something out like, "Wow, 18 pounds! Are you sure your not overfeeding them? You know childhood obesity starts young." O.K. I am a dietitian so I know chubby babies doesn't necissarily mean anything, but she was rude to you and you needed to be rude right back.

The babies sound O.K. for their age. I had a couple of 14 month old twins in my office and the smaller one was just bearly 15 pounds - but he has always been the tiney one. Go by the growth curve. If Aidyn is consisitant then don't worry about it!!

Yah, a nanny?? How many people in reality can hire a nanny?

I agree you are a super mom for being a mom to twins without a nanny and like Jenny said for trying to do the best for your babies!

I agree you are a super MOM. Any mom is a super mom. But one does not have an idea of what being a mom of multiples is like until they have more than one. It is very rewarding but definitely more work...with double the rewards.

[IMG] Sorry! People need to be quiet sometimes. Your babies are fine. If they weren't the drs would be running test after test. They did that with my ds Ty even though he was born with a heart defect they put him through so much to find out why he wasn't gaining any weight. They determined he has a higher metabolism then most.
