Well Monday was the twins 2 month b-day. Hailey woke up with a very high fever. I called the ped and took her in. It was 103 in the office. They checked ears, mouth, lungs etc everything was a-ok. Lastly, they checked her urine. It came back with bacteria and blood trace in it. Due to her age and the high temp they had us admitted to the hospital. monday evening. We have had x-rays, ultrasounds and fluids taken and tested. The cultures came back and she has bacteria in her urine but also her blood as well. She has been on antibiotics since Monday night. They started a fresh blood culture this morning, if it is clean (no bacteria growing) on Friday morning we can go home with continued antibiotics at home. I will have to bring her back for outpatient when she is well to check to see if she has reflux of her bladder which might be the cause of the infection to begin with. Hailey has been a trooper. Not crying much when they poke and prod her. Has anyone else dealt with the UTI in a baby so young or heard of the bladder reflux thing?

I dont have any experience with it in babies, but I had bacteria in my blood last November from a UTI and kidney stone. Its not fun. She sounds like a total trooper because even I was crying with the constant blood draws. Hang in there and I hope she gets to come home soon. :hug99:

I had a friend who's baby had a UTI just days after he came home from the hospital. They had to be admitted for a week to administer the antibiotics, but he was just fine!

Good luck, I hope your baby gets well soon!

No experience with UTI...just wanted to say I am sorry you are having a rough week. Things are tough enough with twins with out having to hang out at the hospital. That must be hard to see your baby sick and having tests ran...I am so glad she will be okay. Thinking of you and your family! Hang in there!

My best friends DS had a UTI before he was a month old. She was breastfeeding so they admitted the both of them. He had to have antibiotics through an IV. He continued to have UTIs and they went to see a specialist. Through ultrasound they found that there was a "flap" (sorry i do not know what it was called) that was not formed yet and was allowing bacteria into the Kidney. I think this is how she described it to me. They continued to monitor him and he did get lots of UTI's but I'd say by the time he was six months every thing had grown in and was functioning properly. It took a little time but it all worked out. I hope your little one is home soon and everything is okay.

As a child, I had bladder reflux and ended up with surgery to correct it when I was 5 years old. Also, a three year old friend of our's had the surgery successfully last year shortly after she turned 2.

Apparently, it's not as uncommon as people might think!

My surgery was done in 1978, and I have had no problems from it. I do remember being sick a lot as a preschooler and my first year in kindergarten. . .

I do hope all is well soon. As a child, I had no clue how stressful the whole situation was for my parents. Thinking of you!

My son has bladder reflux. They diagnosed it by ultrasound when he was still in utero. We see a urologist from time to time and he takes daily antibiotics to prevent UTI's. Thankfully, he's never had one. At a year of age he has to repeat some imaging studies and then the urologist will decide if he needs surgery or not. Many times they can outgrow it without surgery. Hope everything turns out ok.

:hug99 My older DS had sepsis when he was 3. He was in the hospital for a little over a week. He just wouldn't wake up one morning and was really cold and really sick. I hope she gets better soon.

Melissa, I don't have any experience with bladder reflux but I'm sorry your little girl had to go through this and I'm sorry you did too. :hug99: I hope they find out what's the cause of this. Please keep us updated. :hug99:
