A scary thing happened today... I was changing Dani's diaper, and Lillie got very upset while strapped into her bouncy seat. She kept turning and squirming and then she toppled the whole thing over! I screamed and tried to rescue her while still keeping a hand on Dani on the changing table. Fortunately, my DH works from home and came out to help. She just got a little scratch on her chin, but she's fine.

Needless to say, I need new seats for them. The bouncy seats are my lifesavers! I use them to feed them in the morning, one sits in it while we bathe the other. They sit in them while I wash dishes. Any suggestions for new seats that are easily portable and work with mobile babies?

    thanks!!

p.s. What we currently have is this.

I'm glad everyone is ok! I'm on my iphone so I can't see their ages, but maybe try bumbos? Although if they are really squirmy they may topple those, too. Eeks, mobility!!

Maybe try an exersaucer or a jumperoo.

Oh, yes! We call our jumperoo the command station. It's a huge hit! Although my friend who is a physical therapist encourages us to use it no more than 15 minutes at a time. But isn't it amazing how much can be done in 15 minutes!!?

I was just thinking the other day that I need to think of an alternative because mine have become sqirmers in there bouncers. Would love to hear some suggestions too.

Mine squirm in their bouncy seats (we have these ones) and have managed to flip out of them (Viv can even twist and squirm so her legs come completely out of the harness) but we still use them. We just use for giving them their bottles which they hold on their own and then take them out of them when they're done and start squirming. So in other words, we always supervise them when they're in them. Otherwise, we use exersaucers and a superyard to keep them safely contained.

ETA: mine never really like Bumbos and would just arch their backs until they almost flipped out of them backwards. So not a great alternative for us.

Mine will stay in the Bumbo for about two minutes before they start arching their backs or twisting around. The tray is pretty much pointless! We have one jumperoo that the girls LOVE. It's on the bottom floor so it's not great for when I need to shower or change clothes. :(

I'll keep looking and welcome all the advice.

Bumbos didn't work for my chunky boys, but the Exercauser was a huge hit. You can also get the highchairs out for feeding time- I use the highchair with toys on it during a non-meal time for containment sometimes.

This happened with Cooper and he was ok too, but i got such a fright too! That was the end for bouncies here too! We then switched to exersaucers and high chairs. The jumperoos were a real hit too!

I'll probably soon invest in an exersaucer. I've lost count of how many people rave about them.

My SIL recommended this seat. Has anyone tried it? I also saw this one, which, in my opinion, is much cuter!

Exersaucers are the best! I highly recommend the Evenflo Triple Fun exersaucer because it converts to an activity table once they start walking and no longer use the exersaucer.

Mine are only 4 months, so I haven't really had any experience with them flipping the bouncers over, but mine are just starting to arch out of them. They have to be strapped in unless I am right there with them. Anyway, I already use our exersaucer because they love to sit upright and they like to look at the toys on it. I love it already and they can't even get much fun out of it yet.

I have bouncy chairs similar to MustLoveCats. But I also have a chair similar to this. I would think it would be hard to topple if you have the kick stand out, but you never know with the LO's. It seems like kids can always manage to do things you wouldn't think they could :)! The girls do like it, though. It's neat that you can put it into a stationary position or let it rock.

We rely on the exersaucers for those times when we need to keep a baby contained. As soon as we get our living room reorganized, I'd like to get a superyard.

Yeah, at that age-go for the Exersaucer. I had the same one Jessica mentioned(well, an older version). We also had a free standing Jumperoo, a Johnny jumper(the one that hung from the doorway), as well as a second exersaucer(hand me down). At that age, we also had a gate/superyard and I could leave the boys with a few toys on the floor and get something quickly done. And you could also use the highchairs as well. At this point, me personally, I wouldn't invest in the infant/toddler chair. But that's just me. Happy shopping!

I had the same bouncer as Mustlovecats and Blake loved it and used it a ton for the first 4 months. After he started to liked being on his tummy more we rarely used it so I gave it to my sister. At that age I personally wouldn't invest in another bouncer, I think getting an exersaucer is a great idea! My son hated his at first but now he LOVES it! We just got a cheap, basic one (no lights or music) but he'll play in there for quite a while before complaining.

From the time we started bottle feeding at 6 months and still to this day we feed the babies in an older version of these chairs.

Right at this very moment they are in them watching baby einstein before bedtime and first thing in the morning they sit in them to eat and for a few minutes to watch some tv then its time to get up and changed and play etc.

When we feed them we pull out the "kickstand or flap" underneath to make it stable and easier for them to eat, when they are just watching tv we let it down so they can kick and rock themselves. In fact ds rocks himself across the living room carpet heehee. As you can tell by my ticker they are almost 12 months so these were the best purchase we made and we found them on a craigslist type site for 10 to 20 bucks each! Worth more than that for sure!!! Good luck!!!

We have the exact same infant-to-toddler rockers and LOVE them!! I'm so glad we got those at my baby shower and not bouncers. With the kickstand out they are VERY sturdy, and up until just 3 or 4 weeks ago we would strap the boys in them for their evening sippy cup. Not sure if I would invest in them if my LOs were already 6 months old, but I'm also not ready to part with ours yet either and our boys are nearly 15 months.

We also have these chairs and they are by far the most used item in our house between our 4 kids. The babies use them w/ the kickstand pulled out. My two older kids use them w/ it flipped underneath and watch cartoons in them. They meet everyone's needs whether young or old. Very much worth the money.

If they can sit up you could use the highchairs that strap onto normal chairs. You can just set them on the floor to make them more portable and then you have a tray to put toys, snacks, etc. Our kids are a year and 1/2 and we have never purchased "real" highchairs. We have the strap to the chair kinds both inside and out on the porch. We love them!

Phew! Glad all is OK! I use two highchairs (which recline) for feeding and watching me load the dishwasher, cook, etc. They love being able to eat at the table with the family. I can also roll them over to the window so they can watch the rain or over to the living room to watch a few minutes of tv while I do something. Since they recline, mine were able to use them easily by 6 months of age. The only downside is I can't go upstairs while they are strapped in so I just toss 'em in the pack-n-play when I need to run upstairs.

I have one of those booster seats you can strap onto a chair for when we travel, but I think they really do need to be able to sit well to use those. Not sure if yours can sit yet, but I know my DS started flipping in the bouncy well before he could sit.

I think we'll get the infant-to-toddler seats. I really liked the idea, and hearing good reviews here sort of seals the deal.

My MIL also offered to buy an exersaucer so the girls will be set!

After reading this thread we bought the fisher price infant to toddler seats on amazon, they were $35 and free shipping!
The girls love them, thanks so much to everyone!

We're getting rid of all of our bouncies and bumbos now, at 7 months due to this problem. We just put them on the floor (ours aren't crawling yet) or in an excersaucer.

We were in the same situation. Both our boys LOVED the bouncy seats, but one of my boys started to bounce so hard, he was catching air. That's when we started using the Exersaucers and high chairs more. there are different kind of exersaucers - mine like the one that also bounces - for obvious reasons. When they are in the high chairs we give them toys to play with and face them out a window.

That's a wonderful price! I'm definitely going to check Amazon. Also, just FYI: Toys R Us and Babies R Us offer a twin discount in-store. If you're buying two of the same item over $40 (I think), you get a 10% discount on both items. You have to mention it at check-out, or they won't honor it.
