Today is mine and DH 5th wedding anniversary, and I would really like to have a glass of wine with him (ice wine...yummy!!!)I have not had any alcohol in a VERY long time. For our 4th anniversary we did nothing as I was pregnant and recovering from surgery.

So my question is, is it ok to have a glass of wine and then when needed, still nurse the babies? Or so I need to pump and dump?

Any help on this would be great!!!

    Thank you,
    Christine

What is ice wine?? Yes, it's perfectly fine to have a glass of wine (or some may say even two) and nurse. Pumping and dumping is useless. Don't BF your babies if you feel buzzed or drunk. I have a glass of wine (or some may say even two ;) ) several nights a week. I wait until they go to bed because then I have about 4-6 hours before their next feeding...usually, but I always keep it under two glasses max in case we have a major emergency that only momma's breast can fix!

    Happy Anniversary!

Alcohol leaves your breastmilk at the same rate it leaves your blood. So if your blood alcohol is enough to make you feel buzzed, it will be in your milk. It explains it pretty well on Kellymom.com. Have a great time!!

Dittos to the PPs. "If you're sober enough to drive, you're sober enough to BF."

From what I've read the concentration of alcohol in your breastmilk peaks after about 30 min, then starts to go down as your body metabolizes it. I always followed the mantra the pp stated QUOTE
"If you're sober enough to drive, you're sober enough to BF."

    Happy Anniversary!

    What is ice wine??

When the grapes are on the vine, they freeze, then they are picked and wine is made from them...it is so good, but it is more pricey in my opiniom, but it is worth it :)

Anniversary was good, tried a new icewine with brandy...did not like it to much, so I had baileys instead :)

I'm going to have to get some of that. I've never heard of it. Sounds great!

I have seriously heard up to FIVE drinks without pumping and dumping!! Personally I have had 3 in a 4 hour period without pumping and dumping. My babies were fine. I had up to two glasses of wine nightly while they were colicky, Drs orders! :D Best darn dr in the world too! ;)

    Heck yea!

Even the LLL rep who taught my BF'ing class says it is OK to have a glass or two ... she said ... if you have a PITCHER of margaritas ... pump & dump ... but one ... no biggie!

    Happy Anniversary!
