A Question Mainly for SAHM but All Moms

If there were a place were you could go for either two hours a day or two hours a week were you can put your children in a childcare and either go into a meditation room where you can read and drink tea relax, or you can join other mothers in a discussion, Just have sojme time away from your kids would you go there?

I think that would be great!

 

We have a couple of places like that here in Portland, i.e. "Peanut Butter and Ellies". I think that is a great idea for Cali if you dont have any now!

 

I would be there. Especially if the tea was caffeinated.

 

That's an awesome idea!!! The kids and MOM can get away, but you are all there together, great idea! We don't have anything (that I know of) like that around Columbus.

 

I live in CA but I am not sure about the tea thing. I know the place KidsPark is a new adventure for kids. You can drop them off but it really isn't a daycare. It is more of a preschool for a couple of hours. So maybe look into that!

 

I would offer some kind of bed/futon, etcc so they could take a nap!

 

Sounds like it would be nice!! Like what I do at the Rec. Centers when I get to play tennis while the kids are in the "playroom"....

I think I would prefer to run errands or go get a massage or something vs. meditation or tea drinking (I drink tea at home each a.m.)

 

Any place where I can go and relax and have someone watch over my kids - would be GREAT!

 

I'm in So. Cal. and I'd be there in a hearbeat! So would all my friends with kids. We were just talking about that the other day. We meet once a week with the kids and alternate houses but one of us always has to get stuck with the clean-up and prep and we are always keeping an eye on kids at the same time which is not very relaxing. GREAT IDEA!!

 

I have had this very idea myself and it was recently talked about in a contest that Microsoft, I think, was doing for new businesses. It's definitely needed.

 

yes i would go there this week esp. it should have optional massage too. i would give anything for a 1 hr cleansing massage right now and then another 1-2 hrs to rest, drink tea, and go shopping.

 

I know this sounds strange, but that's kind of like our local Y!

I go three times a week and the kids are in the 'childcare' for an hour (but members have option to have kids in the childcare up to 2 hours). Our Y goes WAY beyond just giving time to parents to work out.

They offer massage sessions, book discussions, sauna, steamroom, a lobby if you just want to hang out & read.

Sometimes I just go to take a sauna or spend time in the steamroom, then have a nice long uninterrupted shower. You can bring your cell phone & walk/run outside along our town's bikepath too, which is a nice alternative to the gym.

Today my husband & I took a yoga class, and all four kids had a blast in childcare (even my 9 year old, since there is a big kids room with foozeball, pool table, legos, etc).

I have to say, I really don't know what I would do without the Y especially since I don't have family close by to babysit!

 

Our church has a MOPS program twice a month that has childcare. I haven't actually been to it yet, but have heard it's wonderful. The children are well taken care of and it gives mom an outlet with other moms in similar situations.

 

Sounds awesome! Our church has something along these lines. They have a moms' group that meets once a week with childcare. Only they meet onsite twice a month, then offsite somewhere the other times.

 

Thank you for all your input I am putting together something looking for a space. My main goal for this program is to prevent abuse. There has been a lot of mothers being found abusing there children. One woman was recently accused of killing her son who was nine.

A lot of women are at home, single, with children and stressed out especially in the inner city where I live. I want to provide a place where the can interact with other women who are going through the same thing. Just like we do here with the forum.

But your input has made it evolve into somehting bigger

Yes, I would totally go! I'm actually trying to find a Mom's Day Out kind of program for my twins so I can!
