a question about crib bumpers

I have read prior post and I'm still not sure what to do. My girls are 6 months old. Currently I have bumpers on both cribs. One daughter moves all around her crib when going to sleep. The past few days I have found her head between the crib and the bumper when trying to sleep which makes me extremely nervous (I contantly check her till she falls asleep...without her seeing me). But the bumper has never been over her face.

I am concerned if I take the bumper off that her arms and legs will get caught in the railings. She literally does laps around her crib when going to sleep.

Another concern (but not a priority), is that I currently have to share the room with my daughters. So there are two cribs and me in a bed (long story but we're in the process of moving...and we will continue to share a room for another 2 months...ughhhh). So, I feel the bumper blocks any views from me and her twin.

Do I use one of the breathable ones with a tighter fit? Do I just take the bumper off? Or do I just watch her carefully till she gets out of this stage?

My other daughter and my 22 month old used the bumper and had no problems. And I plan on continuing to use the other bumper with our other daughter, as this is not an issue with her.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks.

Im curious as to what others think on this too. My DS gets himself all the way in the corner of his crib (his head in the corner) and puts his face right up against the bumper. Its almost a comforting thing for him because he will try and pull the bumper on to his face. He never covers his nose/airway but his face alwaya has to touch it for him to go to sleep??????

I tried the breathable bumpers on Jake's crib, but never could get it on there right, as it was always sagging, so I went back to the regular bumper without any issues. All of my kids had bumpers on their cribs.

At 6 months I wouldn't really worry about it cause she can easily move if she were uncomfortable, but if she were doing that at 2 months I'd probably freak out.

Rose often rolls over onto her tummy and puts her hand on the edge of the bumper and falls asleep. And then when she wakes up she sometimes unties them and pulls them down  Now That I'm not happy about cause she can get the string down her throat and choke on it

Mine have regular bumpers still on their cribs. Tyler will still snuggle right up into the corner. I moved him to the center of his crib several times when he was small and he would just scoot right back to the corner. So I have left the bumper on for him to snuggle with. Derek uses his as a foot prop. I really would like to take them off just for ease of sheet changing and they are getting a bit ragged, but the boys love them so in they stay.

I use the breathable bumpers from One Step Ahead and they fit well without sagging and I like them. I also have one DD who sleeps in the corner with her face wedged in for comfort and it gives me peace of mind knowing she can easily breathe. The negative to these breathable ones is that they can still feel the bars/slats as there is very little padding. When I moved into the cribs at 3 mos from a co-sleeper my one DD got wedged up against a bar and rubbed a red spot on her head before I got her moved away from the side. I also sleep in the same room as they do and you really can't see in the crib very well and I still have to get up and walk over to see them at night.

I also have the breathable bumpers and am very happy with them. Even so, I do move my DS away from it when he falls asleep against it.

At 6 mo, with securely tied bumpers, I would not be concerned. All 3 of mine have used bumpers.

We use breathable bumpers, although they really don't need them anymore. To fix the sagging, we slid them between bars in several places and they're pretty secure now.

We had the regular kind. The breathable ones would not work with the cribs we had, and they needed something -- they were always smushed up against the sides of their cribs and trying to get their limbs stuck. They started sleeping in their cribs with bumpers around 5 months and we never had a problem. It was just something I chose not to worry about.

Both my kids had regular bumpers, it's the really thick (usually really expensive) ones that are worrisome because you can't get any air flow thru them. The regular ones (like the kind I bought at walmart or babies r us) are much thinner and if you try it, you can actually get some air thru it.

Once they start rolling you don't really have to worry, much like if you pulled the covers over your head and couldn't breath, you'd move. They can now move their heads enough to get them away if they need to. :)

I removed all bumpers when I found DD under hers, with her face covered. She was calling for help as she was stuck under it (how on earth she managed to get herself into that position, I dont know!) and it gave me a fright so I removed both bumpers even though DS never had a problem. My DS does laps too and hasn´t got caught in the railings as yet.

If you´re sleeping in the same room as her then you could remove the bumper and see how you get on but it´s up to you. I´m sure she´ll be ok. GL!

I constantly was worried about suffocation, so I just got rid of them completely.

  15. It looks like I'm in the minority, but I never ever considered using bumpers. There was just so much information out there about the risks that it seemed like a risk I could so easily avoid. My little ones are now 9 months, move all over their cribs (in their sleep sacks) and we've never had a problem with tangled limbs or injuries of any kind. And I never had to worry about suffocation. I know it is a decision everyone has to make for themselves, just wanted to put my two cents in on the other side.

With my DS we used the breathable bumpers and I love them. You have to restrap them occasionally to keep them tight, but that's the only maintenance required. I liked them b/c I never worried about suffocation (which was why I used them in the first place), but a great side effect was that he never got his limbs stuck in weird positions through the slats, PLUS all his little toys, etc. as he's gotten older stay IN the crib, not falling through the slats onto the floor. We've been really happy with it.
