Is it really common for your toddlers to have lots of undigested food in their poop? It seems like I can always tell what they've eaten recently just by looking at their poop. Mandarin oranges are the worst, but I also frequently see carrots, green beans, corn, etc. Yuck! I guess I'm not overly concerned about it, but I wonder if it's just my kids or if everyone has this issue.

Its common for my boys to have pieces of stuff, in fact we found one night that Jay and I were examining a diaper to see what it was....

That was the night we realized we needed a life. Badly. :winking:

I think at their age, they are not chewing their food properly and so big chunks go down and don't get digested.

I see pieces of stuff too, but can't tell what it is. Well, I haven't really tried very hard as the smell has just become unbearable. Blueberries are their favorite fruit and they make black and very stinky poop!

I know corn is something I've seen before. I don't know about the rest.

My daughter has that issue too! It's gross. It's like she doesn't chew her food good enough or something.

LOL...yep, common problem. In fact, I have a  story about it. When my oldest had bananas, they didn't digest all the way. The little stringies that turn brown were in her diaper. I thought she had worms  Seriously! But, the funny thing is, my entire doctor's office had never seen this either...so a sample was sent to the lab. No parasites, and I don't remember how I figured it out, but when I realized it was bananas, I couldn't stop

I'm hoping its normal! And very funny how you mentioned mandarin oranges because I couldn't figure out why their poop was orange the other and now it just clicked!

Mandarin oranges, corn, peas, and blueberries are what I tend to see the most frequently. I don't look too hard, though.

Yup, mine have the same issue too. I think it's common: I usually see corn, green beans, and peas.

My boys eat a lot of beans. They look exactly the same coming out as they do going in. Lots of other foods, too. I hope it's normal, because it's standard fare around here!!

I'm so glad you posted this & to see that it's normal to have so much undigested food in their poop!! Mine have a lot of beans, peas, carrots, etc in theirs A LOT. I was starting to worry that they weren't getting any nutrients from these veggies, but it makes sense that they're going straight through b/c they don't chew them well enough. PHEW

Yep. It makes sense to me too now. They don't have molars yet, so I'm sure they aren't chewing things thoroughly.
