Ok this might be a Mini Vent..
Well DS made a discovery.. His "little man". This is Driving me NUTS... Every time i take off his diaper his hand goes down there... Poopie diapers and all.
He is 8.5 months old. Is this a stage or does it last forever..? I know men with their hands down their pants (every time they come off it seems..)

    Thanks for listening...

First of all, it's extremely common. It may last a while too. My boys are almost 2 and they have a ritual during diaper changes where they reach down, pinch it twice and say "toot toot!"  My 8 yr old still has to check for his every morning too, so there you go. :D

One of mine is doing this. He sleeps on his stomach and all his poop goes directly in that area. And of course he still liokes to put his hands in his mouth. I don't think he has gotten a taste of poo, yet.

Oh yes, my twin boy is still doing it! I change them on the floor with their feet toward me so what I do (and have done since this started way back when) is put their arms out to the side and put my legs on top of their arms until I can get them all cleaned off. It's better than a baby straight jacket! :D

One of my boys discovered his about 3 weeks ago. He's not too concerned during diaper changing yet, but he hangs on for dear life in the bath! It's too funny. One night he actually switched hands when my mum had to wash the arm doing the holding! Last night it was almost like he waited to get in the bath to look down and watch himself pee. He's quite fascinated by it all. His brother is oblivious.

While it doesnt happen at every diaper change anymore, it still happens everyday even with the dirty diapers. Now they have discovered "it" in the bathtub and its hilarious.

oh yes it is quite normal. mine was just about that age when he found his friend  he was in the bath tub and looked down and tried to get it away  then just like any other man now he has a fascination with it. every diaper change he grabs it pulls it pinches it. when he has a poopie diaper what i do is put both his legs up and hold legs and hands away with one arm and quickly wipe then i let him loose then diaper him again. sometimes it works other times he has both hands down there faster then i can blink so then i am wiping hands legs butt hands feet oh its so gross

My son still pays quite a bit of attention to it- and the worst thing is- not thinking too well maybe (or just didn't want to use slang) I taught him the correct name- so he grabs it a lot and says "penis, yeah, penis". His favorite thing to do is while sitting on his potty is to make it "pop" above the deflector thing.
Oh well, boys will be boys!

Oh my gosh you have me laughing! :D Riley has gone for his a few times but no major obsessions yet. I'm looking forward to the inevitable though.

    Unfortunately, I think it's a man thing.

Mine started at exactly that age and he's still going strong. No matter how worked up and babbling and kicky he is as soon as the velcro rips, it's hand in, perfectly still and quiet. So for that reason it doesn't bother me. Otherwise he was squirming around making it impossible to change him. But yes, have the wipe READY and immediately onthe package in case of poo.

Thank you for posting this 1) I needed the warning because my boys haven't discovered it yet and 2) I really needed the laugh.

My nephew did this, he would literally tug and pull on it. It looked like it would hurt, but he was having fun.

This happened to me the other day with Jason. And, of course, it was a poopy! He does 'hold on' in the bath too, but if I had him a washcloth he'll let go.

Thanks for the laugh this morning!! :D

 I'm terrified to have my boy in September and what is to come! I know that they discover it, but OMG....I'm going to be mortified when I first see him messing with it, then I'll be laughing my butt off after reading about some of the things your boys have said.
