A little FYI on high chairs that I wish I had known

I've been meaning to post this for some time but just today realized I hadn't, so now I am :)!

When registering for our high chairs, my DH was SET on a cute, jungle themed one by Baby Trend. It's a really nice highchair with great features, but I was a little upset with the cloth seat cover. I still let him have it (since I had chosen most EVERYTHING for the registry) & we got 2 for our showers.

Fast forward to self feeding. The cloth covers are crunchy & disgusting after each meal. The food just cakes on & it's soooo gross.

So I pulled off the covers to wash them & looked for the care instructions.

    DRY CLEAN ONLY

WHAT? HONESTLY? WHO would make a dry clean only high chair cover? Ugh.

I've washed the covers on my own, but they aren't holding up well. I just refuse to deal with dry cleaning.

So, for those of you registering or buying high chairs & are dead set on the cloth covers, be SURE that they are machine washable. I had never even THOUGHT to look!

I just don't want this happening to anyone else......

Can I get advice on wooden high chairs. I had a plastic one for my daughter and really disliked how it captured food in all crevis?

I too made that mistake the first time yuck, the second time around I too got plastic and the highchair was 1/2 the price! I wonder if you could just get a new cover online?

I had the same exact ones as Andrea and ended up giving them away after one month. Yup - just took the loss and donated practically new high chairs because they were such a pain. I then purchased Keekaroo wooden chairs and I LOVE THEM! I should do an infomercial for this company I love these chairs so much. They work great as regular high chairs with trays, or you can remove the tray and pull the baby right up to the table, and then when they're too big for high chairs, you can use these as regular chairs. They hold up to 250 pounds! They're easy to clean. No crevices. Fully adjustable as your baby grows. They look nice too and don't cost nearly as much as the trendy wooden high chairs from Sweden.

Just a note - we bought the chair and got a free tray. I didn't buy the cushion or grab rail and haven't needed them.

    That is good to know!

We registered for two of these: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3012847 which I think will save a lot of money! (And space in our small kitchen ...) And it says the covers are removable and washable; hope they won't be too hard to clean!

This is what we used with DS and will for twins as well. They are SO cheap (in terms of cost, not quality), easy to take to a friends or family, take up less space... we just use our older kitchen chair we saved (our newer "nicer" ones have cloth seats so we didn't want to put indentations in them). It's so nice because if we have company it's really easy to just take it off the chair and throw it in the laundry room if we don't want it out. I wouldn't get an actual highchair for anything now that I have used one of these!
