    Hi Everyone,

I was very much in the fear category when it came to having a C-section, but it was unavoidable as Baby A was breech.

I started reading through the sticky thread about C-sections (what I wish I knew) and ended up getting so scared and freaked out that I stopped. I just revisited it now that my section is done and over with to see if there were any tips or info for recovery since that is where I am. In reading through it I noticed people posted a lot of info about negative side effects of a section which is probably why I got so scared.

I just wanted to reassure those of you who are going to be having a section. I had mine less than 36 hours ago and am already feeling really good. I didn't experience any nausea, dizziness, or discomfort during the process. The surgery was fairly quick anyhow, but as soon as the first baby came out my attention was focused there. I had been really worried about the sensations people described (tugging, pressure, pulling) and was afraid I would freak out. I could feel the doctors "touching" my midsection, but nothing like people describe. It just felt like someone was touching me. No pain. No creepy sensations. Nothing.

My nose was "tickly" afterwards (kind of like when you get your haircut and the little pieces of hair tickle your face) and my hands were shaky, but I was comfortable and relaxed.

My tummy feels sore when I sit and stand, but once I get through that motion of going up and down I am fine. I move slow, but I'm moving and am not in any real pain when doing so. I obviously still have some recovery ahead of me, but I actually feel better 36 hours post-section than I did after having my son vaginally.

So anyhow...everyone's experience is different, but really wanted to let people know that it can be a good one.

Honestly, having done it both ways I would choose the section in a heartbeat. It was controlled and felt safe to me.

I am so glad to hear your c-section and recovery are going so well. We are planning on vaginal Baby A is vertex but baby B is transverse so C-section is on the back of my mind as well. Usually you hear all the negatives so I am glad to read it wasn't that bad at all. Once again thank you!

I am glad to read that your c-section and recovery is going well. Thank you for sharing your story. When I had mine, I was very fortunate that it was pretty much smooth sailing afterwards. The recovery went well and I took it easy (as much as I could with newborn twins).

I am happy to hear that not every c-section is a bad experience. Its more then likely I will have to have Twin B by section! Thank you for sharing as you have eased some of my fears!

I agree with you completely! My csection was an emergency since my little guys came at 29weeks, but I was up and walking around a little by 24hrs later. I could feel them doing all the work, but it was more of an odd feeling than anything painful.

i, too, had a good c-section. in fact the worst part for me was not being able to eat for x amount of hours before or after the surgery...one of the nurses told me that one of the first things i said post-op was "when can i eat"...lol.

i had a spinal and couldn't feel ANYTHING in my lower body for the first day pretty much and i have an extremely low pain threshold. they gave me a shot of morphine the evening of the c-section (mine was done in the early afternoon) and that did nothing for pain. finally i was given percocet every 4 hours the first night and 2 of them every 4 hours until i was released a few days later (4 total).

i think the biggest thing for recovery, for me, was movement. try and go for a walk (if you can) around the mother baby unit using your babies' bassinet on wheels as a walker. do this a couple of times a day, it helps with the gas build up and your ability to use the bathroom.

also don't be surprised if you forget how to pee. yep, i did. i had a cath in for the first day and when they removed it my body just couldn't remember what to do so they had to put one in to drain me...i was fine after that.

overall, the c-section was great. recovery, eh...it could have been worse.

I'm glad you posted a good story. I never read the c-section story, and I didn't realize it was scary! Eek!

Mine was really a great experience too.

I'm glad your c-section experience was good. I had my baby A vaginally and baby B emergency c-section and I honestly didn't think it was that bad either. Yes I felt a little tugging when they were getting her out but it didn't hurt just felt weird. As far as recovery pain goes I really didn't feel that much pain, stuff just felt numb/odd but it wasn't bad enough for me to even need to take many pain meds.

I agree that reading the sticky had me pretty scared, but mine was great! I really have no complaints and thought the recovery was really easy. Glad it went well for you and congrats on your little ones!

I am a HUGE fan of the scheduled c-section - I have had a great experience each time, two singletons, then my twins last Tuesday, 9/1/09. Love them! If anyone needs a c-section pep talk, feel free to shoot me a message - I am happy to oblige!
