We still dont know babies sex. but we are at an absolute loss for names!!!

now, clearly we arnt looking for a common name. it'd be strange to have a 'jack' or 'Ben' amongst our strange brood.
im looking for some strange/uncommon one syllable boys names

and some strange/uncommon girls names! (how ever many syllables it may be)

    your thoughts?

I am not a fan of made up names, but if you want "real" names that are rare nowadays I suggest looking through old literature for example Shakespeare's plays. Hamlet has Ophelia which is not very common, yet beautiful, King Lear features a Cordelia (and a Goneril, but let's ignore that one, it is pretty awful), in Othello you have Emilia and Desdemona (though the meaning of Desdemona is "ill-fated" so maybe not such a winner, even though it flows across the tongue so well), in Two Gentlemen of Verona you have Silvia and Lucetta, in Midsummer night's dream Titania, Hermia and... well Peaseblossom, In Merchant of Venice there are a Portia and a Nerissa, in As You Like It you have a Celia and a Rosalind (also Rosalind in Romeo and Juliet), in A winter's tale a Hermione and a Perdita, in The tempest an Ariel, Miranda, Iris, Ceres and Juno...

My daughters are Isabella (like in Measure to measure) and Hermione (like in A winter's tale), though Isabella is very popular nowadays it was a very old favourite of mine and Hermione is associated with a teenage witch, but I like that when they grow up they will be able to read old plays in which their names are important characters.

Otherwise, if you do want made up names, I believe there is a name generator thingie online, which makes up names with some input of information (female, male or unisex, etc...).

I only have 1 daughter & wanted her to have a name that I thought was beautiful & elegant that would stand out without being "weird". After a lot of searching we named her Elia (prounced Ellie-uh). It means "God has answered my prayers" & is an old name. The large majority of people I have met have never heard it, but it isn't something that seems really "out there" to them. I love it & she won't have to go through school being Amanda N.

I have recently heard Elliot as a girls name. I like it better as a girls name then for a boy.
