a big zit on his foot?!

Bridger has a strange white bump on each heel - one is bigger than the other, but they are both in the same location on each foot. They look like whiteheads that need to be popped - one is your average zit size, and the other is pretty big (maybe 1/8 or 1/16 inch diameter - I'm a bad judge of that). They are not bothering him, do not seem to hurt when I touch them, but they are clearly not right.

    What the heck is that?!

Maybe blisters from where his shoes are rubbing? I would leave them alone, or put bandaids over them so they don't rub anymore...

Maybe - it seems harder than a blister though. And it is white-white, like there is pus in there, not just fluid covered by skin.

FWIW, he has no other symptoms of any kind - no fever, perfectly normal, just these strange bumps on his heels.

I wish I could help. How frustrating - let us know what you find! BTW, have you tried goggling "white bumps on heel" or something like that?

Hmmm.... how odd. It doesn't sound quite like HF&M, but that's the only "bug" I can think of that causes blister type bumps on feet. Though being in the same place does make me think shoe rubbing as well. I think I'd just call in to the ped and ask if they'd want to see him.... otherwise, the next best thing to do is just watch it. How long have they been there? Hope you figure it out soon!

My guess is Hand Foot and Mouth. When my oldest got it (the 1st time) he had no other symptoms other than the blisters on his feet. I thought it was SO strange. Then a couple days passed and he got the other symptoms (fever etc).

Thanks for the responses so far! Yes, I've done a bunch of searches and don't find anything like this. I looked through all the hand-foot-mouth stuff, and it doesn't match anything I've read about. He had no fever first, he has nothing in his mouth, and the bumps aren't red or blister-like, just white and pus-like - but I will definitely keep an eye out for other symptoms, as maybe he's just getting it in a strange order.

I first noticed them on Saturday, and they haven't changed since then.

So, I called our ped's office to see if they thought it was anything to worry about, and I stumped the nurse too! She asked all kinds of questions and didn't have a clue what it could be either. She asked the doctor and said they want to see him just to check it out in person since it doesn't sound like any of the usual things - so, we're taking him in this afternoon. I'll let you know what it is - if they know!

Hand foot and mouth or a wart (which comes in all shapes and sizes). Glad it's not bothering him.

Yep, I was gonna say wart too

I'm certainly curious as to what the dr says!!! I hope it's nothing!! :good:

Thanks - actually wart was my first thought, but then I got online and looked at all the descriptions and pictures, and it just doesn't match. But you pp may be right that they are so variable, that maybe that is it and it just doesn't happen to look like the pictures. Same thing for HFM I guess.

Either way, I guess we'll find out later this afternoon. FWIW, the things that made them decide to see him were that it appears pus-filled and that it has grown (one started out small and got bigger, and then the other appeared) - apparently those were the two symptoms that pushed the dr. over the edge to want to see him.

    I'll let you know!

    any news?

So I got home this afternoon to pick Bridger up (DH was going to stay home with Porter), and his foot actually looked better. The bigger one was still a white bump, but was now more hard, less like a big puss-filled bump like it was earlier, and seemed to be getting smaller. The smaller one hasn't changed - still looks like a little zit, but at least hasn't grown like the other one did. Anyway, I called the doctor again and described what it looked like now, and they suggested I just keep an eye on it and call if I notice it get bigger, discharge any liquid, or if he develops a fever. If any of those happen, they want to see him. If none of those happen, they'll just chalk it up to a strange skin thing that resolved itself. So, we may never know.

    Thanks for your input!

I know this is going to sound really out there, but it sounds like they are boils. Basically, it is a zit. Has he had really sweaty feet lately? Could be caused by a clogged pore. Annika had one a long time ago, during the winter and it pretty much resolved on it's own. It seems odd that he'd have them on both feet, but weirder things have happened.

Has he been outside playing? We get ant bites down here that swell up & form zits. They usually itch though.

I was going to suggest some kind of bug bite but not sure where you are from? Eli just had 2 Fire Ant bites on his toe that look like small zits until you pop them. It's still warm here so they have been wearing crocs and they are bad outside right now. He didn't even know he got bit until I saw his toe!

Actually I think this possibility seems like the most likely one I've heard - thanks for posting the link. His feet do sweat when he plays hard in his shoes, and he wore his shoes a lot more than usual (usually he's just barefoot around the house) in the couple days before we noticed these. So maybe it is that - the combination of his shoes rubbing (as another pp mentioned) and him sweating caused boils.

I don't know - but they definitely are looking better, so I guess I won't worry until I have a reason to! :)

I'm guessing the doctor wanted to see it just incase it was MRSA --- but I'm sure your description changed his opinion. My good friend's young baby had a MRSA sore and never knew how she got it.
