A bed question

I was wondering, at what age do/did you allow your tot to sleep under the bed covers?

The blankets we let them use now seem to be getting smaller and smaller. They are outgrowing them and I was wondering if it would safe to let them sleep under the sheets and comforter. They sleep comfortably on a pillow. They do move around a bit, but I don't have railings on the side of their twin beds anymore and they don't fall off. But, I'm concerned that the sheets could suffocate them. Am I being overly concerned? Will they be ok at this point? They'll be 27 months tomorrow (gosh, they grow up fast!!).

Kiefer seems to get cold. He tries to put his blanket over him during the night sometimes but like I said, the blanket is getting a little small so it's not easy for him to cover himself. Cameron does not seem to be as affected by the temperature even though he has his father's low circulation (his fingers often feel cold...at least more so than Kiefer's who is usually feeling quite warm).

    Any suggestions?

    You make their bed?

    Wow.

My two just have blankets on their bed that they use as they see fit. When they outgrew the baby blankets, I bought some "throws" at Target, they're 4X5 feet and fuzzy. I picked up two for each kid, and just bought a few more for them since they're potty training and the blankets always get peed on or laid on by the dogs. (And I grabbed one for myself for my commute.)

I didn't even realize that using regular sheets and blankets on a normal bed is dangerous. As soon as all my boys moved into a large bed the beds were made and bedding used. They are so small, they only use up the top 1/3 of the bed anyways, LOL.

We're still using Halo Big Kid sleep sacks. Not so much because of suffocation worries, just because the kids wouldn't stay covered if we used regular blankets. Works great for us.

Mine have been using pillows, sheets, and blankets since we moved them to beds last year (2 1/2).

We've been using sheets and blankets since they were a little over two. I guess I'm a bad mom - I never thought about suffocation. Fortunately, neither of my girls has ever pulled the sheets or blanket over their heads, so it hasn't been a problem. We actually bought full sized blankets so that as they roll they stay covered.

My kids sleep with throw blankets in their crib... I've found DD totally covered a couple times (she had her sleep sack plus the sheets on top of her). I don't think it's even possible for toddlers this age to suffocate from blankets or sheets.. it's not like newborns, they would wake up.

We didn't move to regular beds till they were 3, but we started using regular sheets & blankets at that age too. Half the time they sleep on top of their bedding anyway, and when they sleep under it they do get sort of tangled up, but I try not to worry about it. Adults get tangled in the bedding too, but they don't suffocate.

We started using regular bedding when they moved to big kid beds at age 2. I never really thought about it either way, we just did it. They don't always stay under the covers all night of course but they start out the night tucked under their normal sheet & quilt.

Since the age of 3, they have been in twin beds and use a regular size comforter.

We moved the kids to regular beds this summer (they were about 2 1/2) and have used sheets and blankets since then. No issues so far and the thought never crossed my mind to worry about it.
