We had a good 9 month appt. DD weighed 17+13 and was 28 1/4. DS weighed 19+12 and was 28 3/4. The ped. was pleased with their progress in all areas. He didn't show any concern for them not crawling yet.

He did suggest that I start to decrease their formula intake and increase their solid intake. He also suggested that I give them solids prior to the bottle. I have always done this the opposite.

    Our current schedule.
    7:30 bottle
    8:30 breakfast
    11:30 bottle
    3:30 bottle
    5:00 dinner
    7:30 bottle

Any suggestions on switching things up? My DS wants a bottle immediately when we wakes in the morning. He screams even if I try to change his diaper.

I look forward to hearing your advice!

I didn't switch the bottle to after solids but then I've never had big eaters/drinkers. I see you haven't added lunch with solids...maybe start with that and see what happens. They might start to take less formula on their own.

Like pp said, I think I would introduce lunch. We have the exact same schedule as you but added is lunch at 1:00. They get yogurt, avacado and a piece of cheese. They used to drink 4 bottles (28 oz average) but recently have been drinking 4 bottles (22-24 oz).

Dont take my word though because I am not sure if what I am doing is right. I cant wait for our 9 month.

Glad you had a good appointment.

I always gave bottle and then solids, our pedi actually said that was better.

Even now, first thing they get when they wake up is a sippy cup of milk, then once they have drank it all they get their biscuits and gravy.

    :yahoo: on the great appointment!

As for the schedule, my ped recommended the same thing as yours, solids before bottles, but I was not comfy with that seeing as then they wouldn't drink much of their formula, which should still be most of their nutrition. So as of know, we look like this:

    7:30/8:00 bottle 8oz
    9:00 solids
    11:30 solids
1:00/1:30 {depends on how much they had for lunch} bottle 8oz
    5:00 bottle 8oz
    6:15 solids

I figured I am sort of listening to my ped. :p I gave in to one feeding where I did solids first, and that bottle is a little harder for them but they get it down s-l-o-w-l-y! You know your babies the best, if you think they will do good with solids first and still take a bottle, then go for it...or at least try it for a day and see. But personally, I would still make sure they are getting enough formula. HTH!

We do it just like you do Stephanie, only we have been giving lunch since 6 months. If it's working for you and they are eating plenty of solids, I would not change anything!!! If you do want to change it though, give them that first bottle, with maybe less in it, then do solids, and more bottle after? Seems like a pain that way!!

Great appt! I think giving them a bottle first thing in the morning is fine, nobody likes insane crying frantic babies, lol! I still give my guys a bottle first then a meal, but I also have tiny babies so take that advice with a grain of salt. ;)

I think adding in a lunch will help with less bottles (it would be like giving a bottle first).
    Here's my schedule:
    wakes up (5:30-6:30) 8oz bottle
8:00 breakfast, oatmeal first then a 6oz bottle
11:00 -12:00 lunch two stage two foods or 1 stage 2 and a yogurt
2:00 8oz bottle (then he goes down for a nap, or if he goes down earlier he gets a bottle when he wakes up)
5:30 some food while we eat dinner (we did the same with our girls they always ate dinner with us, just a little something)
7:00 rice cereal and 8oz bottle, then he goes down for bed.

Now my guy is a very good eater so you would have to adjust it for yours but give them a little something first then if they seem to still be hungry follow it up with a little bottle.
