The girls both weigh 18 lbs and 8oz and are both 28 inches long. The dr. said oh Jenna is leaving the slender side. She is only 50% in weight, she's not fat! Then he asked about Jenna sitting and I said no-he said well if she's not sitting by June call me she'll need physical therapy. OK wait-Hannah only started sitting this week and Jenna sits with assistance-but she's talking more than Hannah.

He asked about how much formula they were eating and how naps were-I mentioned formula was about 15 oz even though I offer 20 oz and naps are 20-45 minutes. He said if I exercised them more they would eat and sleep better(he makes them sound like dogs). He looked at Hannah's legs and said the reason she's not sitting is because she has low muscle tone and then he looked at Jenna's legs and said yep low muscle tone and then I pointed out that Hannah was the one that was sitting. He's like well I can't explain why Jenna's not sitting. He didn't even say your doing a good job. I know it sounds petty but they are my everything and I was upset.

I looked at them today and they seem so happy :D and Jenna sits better with a wider base with her legs. I just felt terrible after leaving the dr office. I felt like a bad mommy and I didn't know that most babies sit up unsupported by 6 months-if it was so important why didn't he make a big deal about it at their 6 month appt?

Do you think the girls are fat? Do you think Jenna will be OK? :( I've had good appt. with this dr before-maybe he was having an off day.

    TIA :) T

You need a new ped! At my girls appt 9 month appt (well they were almost 10 months) but since they are preemies they were only almost 8 months adjusted age, they were 17 and 20 lbs. The ped thought those wieghts were great! My girls also eat alot more at around 30 oz a day still yet they still dont sleep that well.

Its important to remember that all babies develop at different rates, some sit first, some crawl first, some talk first, etc. Those milestones are just guildline, not a set-in stone they have to do it now kinda thing. FWIW, my girls were able to sit up for short periods unassisted but didnt really start sitting alot until they started to crawl.

If you are really worried have them evaluated. There is no shame in having your children in therapy, it gives them someone else to play with other than mommy, but honestly it sounds more like a pediatrician problem to me

Awww Tracy! I have had doc appointments like that before, I am sorry you left there feeling bad. As far as the weight...I sure hope she's not fat, because my babies weighed 21lbs at their 9 month appointment! As far as the sitting goes, Emma sat at 5 months, Justin and Josh sat at 6 months, Hannah at 7 months, and Jake at 8 months....my point is that they were all different. Just keep working with her, she will get it. And if you are worried, make another appointment for an evaluation. Set up your next appointment with a different doc! :hug99:

:hug99: and you are not a bad mommy! The doctor sounds like a jerk! Your girls are not fat. My ds weighed almost 22 lbs at his six month appointment and my pediatrician said he was healthy. My twins are almost seven months old and they are not even close to sitting up unassisted. Every baby is different and you would think a doctor would know that

The doctor sounds like he was very inappropriate. At our 9 month appt. on Friday, DD weighed 17+13 (25%) and DS weighed 19+12 (40%). I think yours are a great size. How exactly are you suppose to "exercise them more?" As far as the sitting goes keep working with them each day. I used to put toys between their legs so that they could lean/hold on to them and play with them. That will probably help your girls.

I would try to make your 12 month appt. with a different doc. Good luck!

    My thoughts exactly!!!!!

At my girl's 9 month appt they weighted 18 and 19 lbs and my pedi said they were tall and slender. You are a good mommy :hug99: , he sounds like a jerk.

My girls both weighed about that much at their SIX month appointment! If yours are fat, mine are clinically obese!

As far as sitting, mine were both sitting unsupported by 6 months, but our pedi actually was surprised at that -- she indicated that most babies aren't (she only expected them to be sitting supported).

It sounds like your kids are doing fine and you are doing a great job!

OH gosh, I am so sorry he made you feel that way! :hug99: I think you should see another doc in that practice if possible, because if he was so genuinely concerned he needs to take some classes on how to approach his patients and their parents. You shouldn't have felt bad after leaving, YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB! And don't let any doctor tell you otherwise. Your babies wouldn't be happy and healthy if you weren't.
I don't think there is such a thing as a fat baby, and your kiddos weights sound great!
As for the sitting, I agree with pp that every child does things in their own time. If you are concerned, I would say to get them evaluated by a physical therapist. We go to one and they really help alot. Plus mommy gets a little break! ;)
Again, :hug99:! You should call up that doc and tell him a few of your "friends" want to pay him a visit! :aggressive: hehee

I would find a new pedi, pronto. Our girls were almost 18 pounds at their 9 month appt. and I believe they were still sitting up with the assistance of the boppy, not completely on their own. My pedi was very happy with their progress. Seems like yours are right there with them.

How the heck do you exercise a 9 month old? Also, they will only eat so much, you can't force it and you shouldn't.

Seriously, you should find a new doctor. Your girls sound good to me and you are doing great. You need a pedi who is supportive of you and your girls. Not someone who makes you feel bad for nothing. Good luck! :hug99:

You are definetly not a bad mummy! I think you need a new doctor. My 2 were not sitting by 9 months. Sophie has only just started crawling at 11.5 months. Mine said Sophie is too small for her age and should be bigger so he is keeping an eye on her but there is nothing wrong with her she is just petite. I mean she does look small when you sit her next to Jack but he weighs 22 lb 13 and Sophie only weighs 16 lb 4! I think he was comparing them and you cant do that.We dont really get to choose our doctors over here so i guess i am stuck with him! Big :hug99: to you and i hope you find a beter doctor soon as that one doesnt seem to care very much x

I totally know how you feel. Just so you my babies are much bigger than yours at 9 months. I have been worried about them being chubby, but I've heard once they are mobile they slim up. My babies are 21 lbs at 9 months.
    Hugs to you,
    Melissa

omg. that dr. is an idiot. Does he know anything about twins? Plus, twins or not, not EVERY single baby sits up at 6 months, that's just an average. And 50% is FANTASTIC. It's completing average and perfect. I would tell the peds how distressed and upset he made you. Sorry you went through that.
