We had our 9 mo check up. The girls are very healthy. Arwen is 23.1 lbs and 28 1/2 inches long. Lorien is 20.5 lbs. and 29 1/2 inches long.

When the ped read the number for Lorien's head measurement that the nurse took he seemed a bit concerned and measured it again. Then he looked at her chart and told me that he wants to schedule her for an ultrasound of her head! He said that her head was growing a little too quickly and he wanted to get it checked out. I have remained very calm and very positive about the whole thing because I can't imagine anything being wrong with either of my dds. He said if they can't see enough through the ultrasound, they would have to do a cat scan. THAT will freak me out. I looked up some info on the net and she doesn't show any symptoms of whatever that head thing is called. Anyone ever deal with this? What is the deal?

for some strange reason pediatricians sometimes are ssoo overcautious it drives us nuts..sophia has a big head too..but its fine..they will grow into it.. as long as she isnt displaying any medical problems..he has to cover his butt if the "chart" is not correct .. so just go along with it to be sure but definitly do not think anything bad until u are told otherwise..by the looks of it your girls look gorgeous

Hi. Our pedi is keeping a "watch" on Olivia's head. She too had a large increase in head size from the 4 month appt to the 6 month appt. There is something called "hydrasefilus" (no clue how to spell it) which is fluid around the brain from what I understand. Does her soft spot stick out at all? That is a common sign of it. I hope everything is okay for your daughter.

no, her soft spot doesn't stick up and I looked up info about hydrocephalys (sp?). She doesn't seem to really show any symptoms of it at all so I'm hoping it's as pp said and that the doctor is doing this just to cover himself if God forbid it is anything. I can't help but wonder if that fall she had off her bouncy chair when she was 5 months old has anything to do with it but I will try my best to not think about that until it's really necessary.

I am sure the fall has nothing to do with it. Surely, you would have seen other symptoms as well in the past 4 months. Like pp said, I am sure that he is just covering his butt.
Let us know how everything goes.

We had a similar issue with Mia. At our 4 month appt. the dr. was worried becuase her head was in the 45% and the rest of her was around 10%. She said that we would wait and see how it was at the 6 month appt. and if it went over 50% we would need to get a CAT Scan. I freaked and we measured her head every few weeks between her appts. The dr said that she wasn't too worried because Mia is not fussy and she prob. just has a big head. At the 6 month appt. she was at 50% but the rest of her body was bigger so the dr. decided everything was ok.

I know that you are worried - and I am sure the fall has nothing to do with it! The dr is probably just being over careful and there is nothing to worry about. Your DD might just have a big head like Mia!

My DD had a head measurement in the 110%. My Ped looked at my DH's head and said he has no doubt it's hereditary. She also didn't jump %, it was always big. We're hoping it's filled with lots of brains.

Peds are just cautious about this, I'm sure there won't be a problem.
