7 Weeks with Back Problems.

Hello, all. I am a mere 7 weeks along with twins (wow, that still seems surreal), but thanks to some hyperstimulation problems (we did IVF), I started having back problems very early, as I was carrying over 8 pounds of extra fluid in my abdomen. Now that the fluid is gone, my back problem still remains. My doc thinks it is my very VERY oversized ovaries pressing against a nerve.

Has anyone gone through this or have any advice? Changing from sitting to standing (and vice versa), walking up stairs (of course I live in a two story house), and basically any twisting, bending, or even just shifting my weight from leg to leg is near excrutiating.

I also had this problem from the beginning of my pregnancy (surprise and then double surprise with twins!) My doctor said it means the babies are positioned on your sciatic (sp?) nerve. She recommended not sitting for too long (more than 1 hour) without getting up to loosen up...she said when you go from sit to stand, to slowly get up and be sure to stretch your back out - she said i could lean over slowly and stretch to touch my toes (as much as possible of course lol) and to stretch the back by slowly tucking my chin into my chest while also tucking into my belly to stretch the lower back. Thankfully, they moved off it or I seem to have a better tolerance for it as I am now 29weeks and only have a few twinges here and there :) Good luck!

What kind of pain? I had crazy lower back pain early on that felt similar to very bad menstrual cramps. Mine was an odd side effect of the progesterone supplements from IVF. When I weaned off them it went away.

Mommy to be - Thanks for the great advice! I will try some of those stretches. I'm sure hoping mine gets better soon, or at least more tolerable.

Mom to Jack - It's a sharp shooting pain in my lower back, just right of the center of my tailbone - right where the sciatic nerve goes through the pelvis I think. It makes transitioning from any position (eg, standing to sitting, vice versa) really painful.

    Summerfun - Thank you!
