I have looked at the sleep schedules but am still wondering...

How much awake time between naps? They are fighting me on naps so much right now. Lily always has but Jack has joined in as well. I am so used to putting them down around the 2 hours mark and now they are always still playing by then vs. being fussy and ready to go down. I hate to let them go longer than 2hr. and 15 minutes though.

Did you notice a marked difference in the amount of awake time around 7 months? We used to have to walk around outside at night to get them to make it to their 7pm bedtime but now they are ready to play more when we come in from our walks and we cannot wind them down until 7:30 or so.

I wish they went down every 2 hours!!! My son NEVER sleeps during the day anymore since we hit the 7 month mark. He'll take 2 or 3 10 minute catnaps, but that's it. He'll be mainly awake for 10-12 hours straight, and he gets sooooo cranky near 3pm-7:30pm (bedtime). He cries the whole time I put him in for naps. He just won't sleep...He'll take his catnaps in the jumparoo or excersaucer....He'll just fall alseep there on his own.

DD does take naps every 3 hours or so. She is starting to get finicky too, but not like him at all!

(He does sleep 12 hours a night straight thru though, sometimes 13 hours or 14 on rare occasions.)

At seven months mine were going anywhere from 2 hours to 3.5 hours between naps. From wake up to the first nap was usually two hours. Then between nap number one and two was usually 2.5 hours. Then from the end of nap number two to bedtime was 3 to 3.5 hours. My girls refused a third nap and really didn't seem to get tired or cranky even when they were up for over three hours.

Before seven months they definately could not be up over 2 hours or else they'd be rubbing at their eyes and yawning.

We are a lot like Trish. From the time they get up to their 1st nap, it's usually 2 hours and then it gets progressively longer during the day. It's typically anywhere from 2-3 hours for nap #2 (depending on how long they slept during nap #1), and then from the end of nap #2 to bedtime it's about 3-3.5 hours depending on when they woke up and when we get them down.

I'm starting to follow the clock a little more and stretching out their awake time. It's actually helped Henry sleep longer...now Ellie, she's another story. She's talked through her entire morning nap for the last 3 days!!!

    Good Luck!

Mine can still only go about 2 hrs max! If I try pushing it any longer, I pay a big price (lots of crying & very short, poor naps). They're usually awake 1 - 1.25 hrs before nap #1, 1.5-2 hrs before nap #2, and 2 hrs before nap #3. But I know most babies this age can go a lot longer, mine are just weird.

All three of my kids were still going to the 2 hour mark at that age. It was after they started crawling that the time between naps increased. All the play that crawling allowed meant they weren't ready for bed after 2 hours anymore.

I was going to post this to your last thread on Lily and her screamfests, but I got busy, so I'll do it now. I wonder if you increase the time between naps will it go better -- I know, heresy according to HSHHC, but I have noticed that I have increased to two-and-a-half to sometimes three hours between naps and things seem to be going halfway decent. Some days we still have nap strikes, but most days I get two naps out of them, sometimes a third. They still go to bed relatively early - by 7 at the latest, usually around 6:30. I've just found that more awake time = better naps. Today Naomi got up at 6, to bed at 9 and slept until 10:40, then nap again at about 2 - slept until 3:20 with minor fussing; Maya slept until 8 (yeah, I know, don't ask!), took a nap at about 10 until 11:40, then back down at 2:15 until 4, with a bit more crying than her sister, but she usually does.

Anyway, just a thought. Good luck. It is horrible hearing them scream.

In the am, we get them up at 7:00, although they are squawking at 6:30 or so. Then they are BTS at 0:45 or 10:00. We are at 3hours to 3:15 between naps their morning and afternoon naps. Each nap lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours. They go down pretty easily. The problem is sometimes getting them to stay down.

I think they dropped their 3rd nap (first of the day) around 8 months. Mine still have trouble going for more than 2.5 to 3 hours awake during the day at 12 months.

    6:00 wake, bottle
back to bed (this is the one they dropped, now I put them back in their cribs with lights on and lots of toys and they play until breakfast)
    8 am oatmeal, fruit
    9-9:30 nap for 1.5 hours
    11 bottle
    12 lunch
    1;30 nap
    3:30 bottle
    5 dinner
    6 bath, bottle, bed
