So my delimema is what to do about my daughter still gagging on solids. She clamps her mouth shut. She will eat if we manage to get the food in. I just don't want this to be a bad experience for both her and I. My son has no problem and even wants more.

Should I keep trying with her. I guess I kind of hoped they would be in the same place, but I know I must treat them as individuals.

    Any ideas?

at this stage, solids are practice... my son didn't take to solids initially, but my dd did great. Lo and behold, a month later (7 months) she went on a food strike! She didn't eat solids for 3 months! I tried once a week once it was obvious that she wasn't interested. Don't stress... talk to your ped. if you are concerned.

Both of my girls used to gag too, I feel your pain. I just kept trying every day, and one day it was like a light bulb went off and they were just "ready" and started eating it. I would just keep offering it to her, but don't make it miserable. If mine gag I might try to offer a sip of water and try 1 more time, and if they gag a 2nd time we're done.

Does she like a particular kind of food. For instance, if she likes bananas, maybe you can feed her bananas or mix them with another food. I've done this plenty with my DD.

I would just keep trying, but if she isn't into it don't force it. Maybe let her have a spoon to play with while you feed her?

Ditto pp's-no big deal, just keep trying and eventually she will get it.

My niece didn't really start eating solids until around 8mnths - so just give it time. I would try everytime you give to ds, and if after a couple of attempts she doesn't eat, then I would just feed ds and leave her to play with a sippy cup, toys or possibly even some fingers foods? Wet cheerios, pieces of banana, or anything else she might like. I actually started my babies on food with giving them just a tiny amount of banana on my finger for the first week, I gave them 3-4 bites and that was it. DS loved it, dd wasn't sure and made a bunch of faces, but she eventually got it.

Thanks for all the advice. We made it a lot more runny yesturday and she liked it a bit more. We let her play with the spoon and she was a little more into eating. It is getting better.

    Thanks for all the encouragement.
