Since last week Saturday Aaden has been projectile spitting up/vomiting on some of his meals (he's not sick, no fevers, diapers are fine). He has spit up since he was born but was never "diagnosed" with reflux or put on meds. His spit up seemed to almost go completely away when we started solids and all of a sudden it's the worst it's ever been. Tonight he threw up EVERYTHING when I was burping him; his whole bottle and probably supper too. I feel soo bad for the little guy. I don't know what's going on. I called the ped a couple of days ago and over the phone he told me it probably was reflux and that we should try to feed him slower and smaller bites and to go back to 1st foods. Check, check and check (not that we were feeding him any faster than anyone else does their own and the bite size has always been "normal") so I don't know about all of that.

Well after tonight's incident I called my sister over and had her take a look at my clothes because I was just soaked and she came up with the theory that maybe I feed him too much throughout the day. Izak gets the same amount of food at the same time and he's just fine. Now in saying that ~ Izak weighs probably 20 pounds now and Aaden is right around 23. He's a big boy but the dr. has said that will all come off once he starts moving. I should also say that I feed by a schedule and not on demand per say. She thinks I should feed on demand but I find that a little difficult since there's two. What do you do? Here's our schedule. Please give me some advice and share your stories!!

7am-8am -- wakeup; 6oz bottle, 1 tbsp cereal (neither one of them is too thrilled about the cereal right now)

    9ish -- nap (1.5 hours)

11-11:30 -- 4oz bottle; each gets a veggie (1st foods) and split a fruit (1st foods) - they usually do not drink the full 4 oz. Aaden usually drinks 2 and Izak 3

    1ish - nap (1.5 hours)

    2:30-3:00pm -- 6oz bottle

    5:00-5:30pm -- 2-3oz bottle; dinner from 2nd foods and split a fruit

8-8:30pm -- 7 oz bottle and then bed (Izak gets cereal in his bottle so he'll STTN.

Am I overfeeding them?? Should I try to cut out the afternoon bottle??

    TIA!!!

I might try and drop the 5 or 5:30 bottle since they dont really drink much of it and see if you can get away with that until dinner and the bedtime bottle. Also try and keep them upright for at least 30 minutes after each feeding to help with the reflux. At 7 months we were doing 4-5 bottles and 2 meals of solids per day (dinner and breakfast). GL!

It doesn't sound like you're feeding them too much at all. Most recommendations for that age say a minimum of 24oz of breastmilk/formula per day. From what you said, it looks like you're right there.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the spitting up, though. Nate and Jack went through a phase like that, but they seem to be keeping foods down better now that they are more upright.

Is Aaden in any distress when he spits up, or does the food just come up and he goes about his business? If he's not in distress, I wouldn't worry too much. His weight is great, so it's not like you have to worry he's getting enough calories.

Did you add any new foods that he might be sensitive to?

Good luck, and I this goes away soon!

I don't think they're eating too much in particular. However, having the 6 oz bottle around 3 and then another bottle and food at 5:30 seems kind of close in time. Plus the 7oz bottle before bed within 2.5 hours of all that dinner may not be helping. Could you perhaps tweek the 5:00 bottle or drop it all together, just give dinner and then do bedtime bottle.

With my boys and now with Bella (a bit younger than your boys), I've done the same schedule as follows:
    5:00a 4oz bottle (I wish she'd sleep longer)
    8:00a 6oz bottle
    11:00a 5-6oz bottle
11:30/45 lunch (usually Tbl cereal with 1/2 big jar of veggie...we've just started lunch)
    3:00p 5-6oz bottle
    6:00p 4oz bottle
6:30p dinner (usually 1-2Tbl. cereal with veggie or fruit) followed by bath and then bedtime at 7

I don't do a specific bottle for bedtime but that's because our bedtime is so close to dinner but I can understand why others do it because of the time span. Baby girl is a reflux baby and we're working on weaning her off her meds.

Sometimes one of mine spits up and it can be a lot, I've actually noticed here recently that she is not spitting up as much as she used to. Maybe it's something he'll just outgrow soon?

Anyway, here's our schedule (and I feed on a schedule, not demand):

    7:30 or 8~ bottle 7-8 oz
9:00 ~ they share 1 stage 2 fruit and oatmeal
    11:30 or 12:00 ~ bottle 7-8 oz
    12:30 ~ they share 2 stage 2 meat and veggie/fruit jars
    3:30 or 4:00 ~ bottle 7-8 oz
    5:00 ~ they share 2 stage 2 meat and veggie/fruit jars
7:30 ~ bottle 7-8 oz right before bed

Mine are little piggies and love to eat, unfortunately just like their momma!

Mine are only 6 months but this is our schedule:

    6a--7oz bottle

    8--nap (1hr)

    9--share stage 1 veggie/fruit and/or oatmeal

    10---7oz bottle

    1130---nap (1hr)

    130-2ish---7oz bottle

    230ish--nap (2-3hrs)

5-530ish--share stage 1 veggie and fruit

    730p---7oz bottle

Now the ounces are just estimates bc sometimes they only eat 5 or 6 and sometimes they will eat up to 9!! I don't think you are overfeeding them but I do agree to maybe try to get some more ounces in at another bottle and drop the 530 or by the looks of the 11ish bottle maybe you could somehow tweak your schedule so that you can combine those ounces with the 530 bottle at another time. Good luck!!!
