Unfortunately they seem to go through phases where they're sick all the time. It only gets worse when they're mobile and touching everything (and putting it in their mouth). It's especially common if your kids are in daycare and/or see a lot of other kids who have all the same colds. The good news is.. all of that goes toward building up a good immune system! The bad news.. you will come to dread cold and flu season while they're small. I think there was about a 4 month period last year where at least 2 people were sick in our house at all times.

All you can do is try and keep up with hand washing, stay away from people who you know are sick and make sure that you're keeping your LO's well hydrated. Watch out for ear infections as well, as those can often come after colds and mimic cold symptoms too.

Ditto to the PP...my girls have been sick since New Years Day, literally. A few days off here and there but one virus stops, another starts (I'm exhausted, reaching burn out and praying for spring :)). I've learnt from my experience with my older one that there are 2 seasons when you have kids...summer and cold and flu season, lol.

It has gotten better for my older one this year so the good news is it doesn't last forever, just the first few years ;).

We have been through lots of colds with our boys this year. I am pretty sure it is colds because it comes on at the same time for both of them, or just a day or two apart, and last about 7-10 days. What you are seeing COULD be allergies - I have that myself, but as an adult, I can tell the difference, which is harder to do with your kids when they can't tell you what they feel.

Allergies tend to be more seasonal and can be watery eyes, sneezing, etc. and go and come within a short time period more than a cold does. If it were asthma, there would likely be wheezing and possibly chest congestion. Lots of people have allergies and not asthma, but most people with asthma also have allergies of some sort. I have both myself.

I don't know what climate you live in, but I would think maybe wait a few months and see what happens. Colds should be a lot less during the warmer months. If you continue to see problems through the summer and in the fall, you may want to talk to your pedi about allergies and allergy testing.

My girls are sick all of the time! They take allegra daily because theirs seems to be allergies. If they miss a dose of their meds, the snotty noses and gunky, watery eyes start up almost immediately. You could talk to your ped about putting them on some kind of allergy meds to see if it helps. The girls started on zyrtec but they needed something stronger, so their ped put them on allegra. Hopefully it gets better for you soon! I do understand how frustrating it can be to have constantly sick kids in the house.

I agree with pp's. When my boys were that little-it seemed like illnesses were constant around here. It would last up to two weeks-runny noses, sneezing, coughing, stop for a week, and start again. I can tell you though-*knock on wood* that now at age 3, they've only had one cold-if that-this winter, and one had a mild stomach bug. Three kids in this house, so in my opinion, not too bad!

When they are sick, make sure you have the vaporizer going, maybe elevate their crib mattress if need be, and vick's baby vapor rub on their feet for coughs(and cover up the feet). And if you are ever concerned, give the pedi's office a call.

If it's allergy, you should have an air purifier if you don't have it yet. I remember my kids had very bad skin allergy, stuff noses,..last year. I bought an air purifier. Those symptoms were gone.

Also I always rub some kinda vicks (my country tradition med) under their feet, on their chest back behind their ears after bath daily.

My kids used to be sick alot but not constantly. Now they get stronger. But when my son gets sick, he'll be very sick. If you breast feed them, take vitamin and try to nurse them a bit more. And you always can give them vitamin but ask Pedi first. Hugs! I know how fustrasting it's! Hang in there they will get better when they get older. Hugs!
