Hey my little angel girls Melina and Makayla are just over 6 months old and I'm not sure what else I'm to feed them other than thier baby foods and cereal..People are telling me to introduce some other stuff like cherrios and puffs etc..what have you been giving them... and are these food considered choking hazards or are they safe for this age? How did you'se know they were ready for these foods? and last but not least What else can I give them that is safe for this age that isn't the same baby jar foods I would just like to mix things up a bit for them lol..maybe I'm just a paranoid mom and scared they are going to choke on me while I'm alone. Well thanks for all your help..

I feel the same way. I was just reading a chapter in The Baby Whisperer about solids. My guys are 5-months and I just feed them rice cereal now, but soon we'll try barley cereal and eventually move on to some fruit and veg around 6 months, I think. Anyway, according to the book, kids are ready for foods they can eat with their hands around 8 months. I can't wait because I know they're going to love mum mums and rusks. Personally I feel a mother's intution is more powerful and accurate than anything you'll ever read in a book. Do you think they're ready for something new or are they happy with what you're doing? At 6 months they still ave lots of time to experiment in the future if you don't feel they're ready now.

Welcome to TS! Congratulations on your babies!

I started with puffs somewhere around 7 months, maybe a little before. In my opinion, they are the best thing to start with because the dissolve very quickly. I started by giving them a 1/2 of a puff until they got used to chewing. If you think they are ready, try it!

You can, if they are ready. I didn't give mine anything other than baby food and formula until around 10 months.

I only did stage 2 purees and baby cereal at that point. I was told by our pedi to try puffs/cheerios at 8 months or so. We started at just over 7 months. I agree with Becky, I would try those first because they do dissolve so fast.

Same here - only baby foods and cereal so far. I did try the baby mum mum cracker, while watching them carefully, but I think they are still too little & it is a choking hazard. They spit out the big bits, even though some of it dissolved.

My pedi told me we would talk about finger foods at 9 months, which is OK by me! There's a pretty good variety of baby food out there and I plan to start pureeing my own soon, so I am not worried about cheerios and stuff like that yet.

They didn't really start to eat more than rice cereal until 6 months, and they just turned 7 months today. I would wait.

We started about a month or so ago with some cream of wheat cereal with formula to thin it out and worked great. Then we gave them little bits of avocados, which they also love. Next we tried butternut squash (store-bought), bananas, apple-banana mush, and just tried homemade sweet potatoes last night and tonight. I also just pureed up some plums today and froze them; can't wait to try those!! As far as liquid goes I hope to introduce water in sippys in a couple weeks while we're on vacation in LA.

I've had so much fun introducing foods to the kids and have to hold myself back from introducing two or three at a time :)
