my girls are almost 6 months old. I was wondering a couple of things.
First, how long should they be going between feedings? Right now they are still eating (nursing) every 3 hours.

I have started solid foods as well. I have been feeding them right before or after they nurse. Is this the right time to do this, or should I be waiting an hour or so after they nurse to feed them the solids?

    Thanks for your help

PS I'm new to the website and I love it!

I don't nurse but because my guys were so tiny at birth (full term and 3.5 and 4.5 lbs at birth) they still eat every 3 hours and I'm ok with it - they get smaller amounts at each feeding and it means less gas and barf...

I give mine formula first and then solids - that way they get the nutrition in the formula...

My girls were still eating every 3 hours at 6 months. I don't think they were able to go closer to 4 hours until they were 7 1/2 or 8 months. I think it was right around the time we started adding more solids, and they started to get the hang of eating better.

When we first started solids we would do some of their bottle first, to take the edge off their hunger, then the solids, then finish the bottle.

Even at 9 months, quite often mine still take a bottle every 3 hours. But not overnight, they sleep from about 7pm until 7am without waking for a feeding.

Mine get a bottle every 4 hours . . . sometimes it's 3 hours if they are acting hungry. I give mine rice cereal in the middle of two feedings. For example, they take a bottle at 3:30, I feed them rice cereal at 5:30, and they get another bottle at 7:30. Mine are only getting this one feeding a day. We're just practicing . . . what a mess!
