My boys are getting close to 6 mos old, and I planned to have their pictures made. Anyone have any good ideas of props, clothes, color schemes, poses, positioning or links to professional pictures that you had done that you are willing to share? I had pictures taken at 5 weeks and felt like I was coming up with all the poses, etc, because I don't think the photographer has taken many twin pictures. We ended up getting some great shots in a basket though.

I was hoping they would be able to sit unassisted, but we aren't there yet, so I may postpone the pictures for another month. What do you think?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I had my girls pics taken when they were newborns, at 3 months, and then again at 9 months so I don't have any 6 month photos to share. But the whole first year my favorites were the pics when they were naked!

hi Aimee - thanks for the response. I did all naked pictures at the 5 week photo session, and I love them! I was planning on taking clothes, but my boys were in 2 different sizes (nb and 0-3 mo), and I didn't have anything that matched, and didn't have the time or energy to go shopping at that point... My MIL on the other hand was NOT happy about it. :rotflmbo: It's not like anything was showing... oh well.

Anyway, for this one, I was thinking clothes. I just don't know what the photographer can do with them, other than lay them on their tummy and have them hold their heads up since they aren't sitting.

Some ideas I had... pumpkins and dressing the boys in browns for fall. Or waiting until closer to Christmas, and having a white back drop with plastic round ornaments scattered across the floor - either in their Christmas outfits, or some sort of brightly colored shirts to match the ornaments. What do you think?!

At the 6 month pictures mine weren’t sitting either. We got some cute ones with them on their tummies. My favorite ones are in just a diaper and a lovey - JC Penny had white diaper covers. We did one outfit change into coordinating outfits and that was about all they could handle at that age. I don’t have them digitally or I would send them to you. I would hope the place you go has some ideas for poses. I have been pretty happy with JCP thus far.

I dont have any prop advice. I tend to just like the classic pictures, however I waited until the boys were 7 months and were sitting unassisted. I wanted to capture that milestone.

ours weren't sitting unassisted for 6 mo. either, but we got some really nice ones of them in baskets separately - at Penney's they had pink and blue tulle that they spread in the basket and then we sat the baby in it... very cute. I also like the cute close up they got of their feet in focus and then showing a little of them and their basket in the background.

we also got nice ones of us with the babies as a family and then me w/one and my dh w/the other etc. enjoy your photo session.

yes, halloween or fall would be fun to accenuate the season that they are 6 months!

We did photos at the park and it is really cute to put two babies back to back in the double baby swings!

We do monthly photos in our home. A friend is trying to get her photography business going and gave us a good deal on a year of sessions. Anyways, we didn't do any diaper shots for month 2 and I really, really missed them!

If you'd like to see their pictures for some twin pose ideas, you can check out their website (pw: jma&z).

Edited to add: This is one of our favorite pictures. Their outfits and blankets were from Gymboree.

My twins are only 3 weeks old, but I thought I would share what we did for my son. At 6 months, we also used JC Penny's, we did the bad tub shots. He was not quite sitting by himself, but did fine in the tub. I think it would be adorable to get both babies in the tub! Also, at our 9 month pictures, we dressed my son in overalls, without a shirt. They are my favorite off all our 1st year pics! They are black and white. I plan to do the same when the twins get older, and get some shots of all 3 of my boys in the overalls! :)

    Good luck!

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for sharing your pictures Valyre! You have two cute boys! I love the pictures that are close ups of their faces real close to each other too!

You guys are making me want to try out JCP. My DH and I had our engagement picture taken there, but now we live in a small town and would have to travel over an hour one way to use them. For now we are using a local photographer. She did get good shots last time, but I just felt like we had to bring everything, the blankets, diaper covers, everything.... So I don't know what she'll have to use for them this time.

I think we are going to wait until 7 mos though just to capture them sitting up on photographs, because we aren't doing anymore professional pictures until 1, and then they will be pulling up and standing (probably)!

    Thanks!
