My BIL was always known in the family as "The Candy Man". He used to work at a vending machine company and would always bring different types of candy in bulk to family events.

He does not have kids of his own but loves being around them. Even from a very young age, he's given my boys candy, and lots of it.

So last night we were at a family wedding. They came into the parking lot the same time we did and I was told that Uncle George had something for the boys.

He pulls out 2-3ft tubes of gumballs, one for each of them. :shok:

Needless to say my boys were THRILLED. But the thing is I have never let them have gum before and did not plan on letting them have it anytime soon. I thought out of sight out of mind, but the first thing my one DS asked for when he woke up this morning was the gumballs.

On a cute note, he also bought for me a tube of gum remover. :bow2:

I really do appreciate that he thinks of them but I now have something like 100 gumballs and I have no idea what to do with them.

    Any ideas?

Send them to school! LOL! My boys would be in HEAVEN if they saw that! I give them gum as a reward for behaving at daycare on the way home:) It doesn't bother me but yes they ask for gum all the time. I say open it, give them a few pieces and then say it went stale. I do that all the time with candy;)

I did open it and allowed them one piece each. They are red, white and blue and the colored ones rub off on your hands if you hold it for any length of time. They all fit in a one gallon zip lock bag so for now, they are in a cabinet in the kitchen.

We go camping a lot so I may just bring them with and pass them off to another family with older kids.

I just recently started to allow the twins gum. But, it is a special treat. If they ask for it, I will typically say no. I think they are starting to get the idea now, but it did take some time. They also know if I see it in their hands/fingers and out of their mouth, it gets thrown away immediately.

Aw, I think that is sweet, in-laws are supposed to spoil kids with candy and what not. Haha. I'd just keep them in the cubbard and dole one out to the kids every now and then. My girls sometimes ask for gum, and I recently started letting them have it. I never did until one day they came home from granpa's with gum and they did alright so I figured, OK I guess they are old enough now.

Something I was told yesterday from an occupational therapist might help- give them 2 or 3 pieces to chew at a time. A big wad is tougher to swallow and will get rid of it sooner (bonus for you)!

I would accept it with a smile and then hide it!! LOL!!!!

    That's what I did. :pardon:

They are now hiding on the bottom shelf of my Lazy Susan in my kitchen.

But I must admit, they are REALLY good gumballs; very soft with a good flavor. :good: I think I've had at least 10 so far.
