Oftentimes my 6 month old babies wake at 6 am. I feed them upon waking. Since I am still tired, I have tried putting them back down right after I feed them. Usually they do a combination of talking and sleeping. Then we'll all get up for the day around 7 am. Now that I am only putting the babies in their cribs for naps (since we're doing CIO), I don't want to confuse them and put them in there cribs if they're not really tired.

I have also tried letting them play after their 6 am feeding, and then putting them down about an hour later, when they seem tired. Since that first nap is so early, is it really considered a nap? Should I still open the blinds and play with them a lot? Which approach is better? How do you get them to take their first nap at 9 am? My babies still seem to have a really short window of wake time.

    Thanks.

My girls wake for the day at 6:30 sharp and usually go back down around 8. I let them play after they eat. I tried the whole putting them back to bed after they ate, but they just weren't having it. I say if they seem tired after eating put them back in their cribs. If they stay up talking then I would take them out and let them play until it is really time for them to sleep. I would consider it their first nap of the day even if it is at 7 or so in the morning.

At that age my boys were on a two hour interval, although sometimes they would go back to bed at 1.5 hours after waking for the day.

I definitely would not push them until 9; I think that's pushing it a little. My boys are now 1 and our wake time is 3 hours; occasionally 3.5.

For the longest time my girls would wake up at 5:30 am to eat, and then were back down for their first nap from 7 - 8 am. I would try letting them stay up until around 7 - 7:30 and then seeing if they'll go down for a nap.

I would definitely consider it their first nap even if it's at 7:00. Since they are getting up at 6:00, if it were me, I would try to push the nap until at least 7:30 maybe 8:00, if you can keep them awake without them getting fussy (if not, don't torture yourself & them, just let them nap). When I was trying to adjust nap time to a later time, I just had a goal of putting them down 15 minutes later than normal, then once they were comfortable with that 15 more minutes, etc. until nap time was when I wanted it.

When mine were getting up at 6, we would put them back for a nap around 7:30. Now they wake up closer to 7, and we put them down between 8:30 and 9.

I switched from 3 naps to 2 naps right around that age. Wake up time here is 6:30am. I almost always hear them before then but I don't get them out until 6:30. I nurse them and then its play time. Around 7:45-8 they eat solids and then we usually go out for a walk. I try to be back inside by 8:45 to do a relaxing period with lights out, maybe let them nurse, and then its nap time by 9. I have found that keeping them busy helps a lot. I can't expect them to enjoy playing on the floor for 2.5 hours. I would get bored doing the same thing for that long and so do they. They almost always sleep for at least 1.5-2 hours for nap times. :woo: hope that helps!

    Hi,

We do the same as most PP, back down after 1hr30 for nap 1, it does throw the whole day off unless they take a really long nap but if not they just end up going to bed earlier.
Nowadays any feeds offered before 5am i class as nightfeeds and they would go back to sleep till no later than 7.30am, any feeds offered after 5am is when we are all up to start the day. The only way we ever make a 9am nap is when they wake at 7.30am, my babies will not nap good when they are up longer than 1hr30/40mins at a push.

Mine were 5:30 wakers and would take a nap at 8 then again at 10:30 and 2. Once I could get them to sleep till 6am (around 8/9 months...at least for a month or two) they could stay up till 9am then nap again at 1 and 4 (catnap). I would just follow their sleep cues.

Mine wake about 5:30 but will usually doze or stare the mobile and fall asleep until about 7 and want up. We'll get up or I'll let them stay in the crib and "talk" and they almost always go back to sleep until about 8-8:30 and we then start our morning routine with the mid-morning nap starting around 10-10:30 am.
