50% effaced - this can last for weeks, right?

Ok, went to triage after a scary bout of strong contractions and intense pressure - I'm 50% effaced, a fingertip dialated, and and am indeed having contractions. However, they are not strong, random sequence, and aren't changing my cervix at all, so I was sent home on "home" rest with instructions to return with any change, A f/u appt for u/s and dr, etc. So Im wondering if this 50% effacement will be similar to a singleton pregnancy - I know Moms can walk around for weeks effaced without changes.

Anyone BTDT? Doing it now? I need these beans to stay inside!

Oh - and dont get me started on the challenge of "home rest" with a 16 month old. PLEASE!

At 32W I was 60% & 2cm. I made it to 36W5D!

I have been back and forth between 4 and 5 cm dilated- and 80% effaced for 23 days now!!! Hang in there and try to keep up with the rest- I know it is hard- I have a 2 year old!!! Just get as much help as you can!

 

Yep, it can last for weeks. Sorry about the home rest, but it sounds like a good thing to do now.

With my oldest DD I was 3cm dilated and 70% effaced at 37 weeks and she wasn't born until 41 weeks! Hang in there. :hug99:

 

Im sorry that you are having to go through this. Did they give you the steroid shots just in case? Or send you home with terb or procardia to help with the contractions. I wish the best for you and your babies. Good Luck!

I wasnt given steroids or anything because despite the contractions and effacement, the contractions didn't seem to be making my cervix change at all. Last night I had to go BACK to triage after having a FAST onset of contractions - I had 9 in under an hour, and decided I wasn't going to take the chance that they'd stop on their own. Still no change, so they sent me back home, which frankly, was just fine with me.

At 32 weeks I was 2 cm and 50% effaced, by 34 I was 3 cm 70% effaced and had to be induced at 37weeks 5 days, the induction was quick b/c I was already dilated. I didn't have to be on bedrest either, I got pulled off work and was told to "take it easy".
