5 servings of fruits and veggies a day?

All of the Gerber foods say that baby needs 5 servings of fruit and veggies a day. I know they would probably tell you this to get you to buy more, but do they really need all that if they are still eating formula (about 30oz a day)? I worry sometimes that mine don't eat enough solids, they just don't seem too interested in solids, they are all about the bottle. They are still on stage 2's and they split a fruit for breakfast (with some rice cereal) and a veggie for lunch and a veggie for dinner.

    Thanks!

I wonder what is considered a "serving"? My babies are splitting a jar, as well, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Occasionally a jar and 1/2 or 2, but most of the time just one. [IMG]

I think a serving of veggies or fruit for a child that age is 2 tablespoons, which is about an ounce.

    Ditto...

It isn't as much as it sounds anyway.

According to the label, one serving is 1/2 of a stage 2 container. That would mean 2.5 containers a day per each twin (5 a day altogether). Between the two of them them I might be lucky to get them to finish off 2.5 containers between the two of them.

Personally I think it is just hype to get you to buy more Gerber food, but I thought I'd see what y'all think!

According to Gerber standards we are actually doing 4.5 Stage 2's a day total so they girls aren't getting theirs either. The girls get oatmeal in the am and then we do half a thing of fruit mixed in. They split a stage 2 fruit and veggies for both lunch and dinner. We are going to be moving to 2 stage 2 veggies at lunch soon cause the girls are acting more and more hungry after lunch.

I think that if they aren't acting hungry what you are giving is ok it probably is just a marketing tool.
