My 5 month old DD has been vomiting all day. Not just spitting up - but vomiting. She is not running a fever but definitely seems to not be feeling well. Sleeping longer than normal (ok that part I'm ok with ;) ) and just looking like she feels crappy. She's pulled at her ears a couple times but not continuously. She was doing it the same time she was rubbing her eyes so I think she was just sleepy and pulling/rubbing everything. They have been on cereal (rice/oatmeal) for almost a month and they had carrots that were fine and we started bananas 2 days ago. We haven't fed them anything today other than breastmilk. Whenever she vomits it definitely looks like a combo of bananas and bm. Hoping she's not allergic to bananas! Those are the best! ;) We've decided to hold off on solids for a few days to see if that improves their gas and gets their BM's moving again. They normally go every day and the last couple weeks they have been going only a couple days. I feel so bad for her. She is all smiles after she throws up and gets it out but then starts feeling yukky again soon after. My friend brought over her little boy a couple days ago (he's 3) and he threw up here but she said he has really bad reflux so I don't know if he was truly sick and gave it to DD or what. This is the first time being sick for us so - help! What do we do other than comfort and clean up? Can I keep bf'ing her? I don't want her to get dehydrated. She's too young for Pedialyte isn't she? Too make matters worse we're in the process of moving and we're getting the moving truck tomorrow so this is so not good timing - but what is? Anyway - any words of wisdom would be great. Thanks!!!

we were told to do pedialyte way before 5 months. if she's vomiting food and her tummy is irritated you can do a bottle or 2 of pedialyte to help clear her system and keep her hydrated.

but regardless, i would call the pedi now. get his/her input sooner rather than later. it's getting into the afternoon and you might want to have your doctor hear what's going on and give you some advice now rather than wishing you did later tonight.

The most important thing is to keep her hydrated, you can try giving her small amounts of water at a time. It sounds like she may have a stomach bug, in which case you just need to let it run it's course. I would call you pedi and just see what they have to say. If she stops having wet diapers or has dry mouth/eyes, those are signs of dehydration.

I would call your Ped and see what they think. I hope she feels better soon. Sounds like you have a lot going on.

Definetly keep breastfeeding her, that's the best thing for her. As for the water or pedialyte I never used either with my kids when they were that young, just breastmilk or formula so I may call my dr and ask for advice on that!

If she is vomiting everything, I would do just Pedialyte until the vomiting stops.

She kept down the last breastfeeding round - no spit up or anything. She's snoozin away right now so maybe she's on the mend. She is still having plenty of wet diapers so maybe I'm just a worry wart. ;) I'll give the Doc a call just to see what she thinks. Thanks!
