I was just curious what all of your guys' babies were able to do at 5 months. My girls are not doing much yet and they will be 5 months on the 16th. They just started to grasp a toy if held in front of them like a rattle or whatever, but have been batting at toys while on a playmat for a while now. They will not grasp the toy on their own it has to be put in front of their face. They hate tummy time and will only stay on their bellies for 5 min or so. They will occasionally roll over from tummy to back but not even close to trying back to tummy. They coo and giggle and that kind of stuff. My other kids seemed like they were doing so much more at this age. I am trying not to be a worried mommy but sometimes its hard not to be. So I was just curious what were everyone else's babies doing at this age?

Mine didn't start doing that stuff until the first week of their 5th month (actual age) and just this last week have started scooting toward the toy they want. Mine hate tummy time too and I can't get them to do it anymore since they just flip themselves back over. I'm interested to see what others have to say, but your girls sound like they are doing fine.

    They sound fine.

Mine would hold a toy if I held it in front of them but did not develop a desire to reach for a toy until about 6 months. Mine also did not care for tummy time and only did it occasionally (usually they would roll back over on their backs). It wasn't until closer to the 6.5 month mark that they would spend more time on their tummy and look around. Then they started "rolling" toward toys and stuff.

Of course, remember all babies are different and they will do things at different time and may do things at separate times between the two. There generally was about 1-2 week variance between Lucas and Jonas on when they started "new" things.

Your babies sound fine, and remember, one day they just start doing stuff and it happens really fast.

    Good luck!

    Mine are the same age.
My girls have rolled over a handful of times, both ways, they dont 'love' tummy time but they dont hate it either. They also figured out that they dont have to do tummy time they can just lay their heads down and relax! One of them does pull her legs up under her a little but not all the time.
They will reach for toys and swat at the toys on the playmat, they do scoot around on their backs to get to stuff or to see stuff. I'll put them down one way and 5mins later they'll be upside down or sideways.
They remember things like the rattles make noise and if you hit certain toys on the bouncy chair or exersaucer makes noise.
And just about anything they can get into their hands goes into their mouths! :)

I thought 5mo olds did more! They do seem to be getting frustrated that they cant do more too.

I am sure they are doing just fine.

    Mine do:
    Roll both ways
    Army crawl towards toys
Grasp at toys and bring to mouth (toys can be anywhere and they will get them)
    Arjun holds his foot
    Holding their own bottles
Laughing, smiling, cooing, babbling(even at each other)
    Responds to their name
Indira can almost sit up all the way if she is propped up (like in her boppy)
Stand and sit with little assistance.

Sounds like just what my girls are doing. Try not to worry!

    Sabrina,

I would focus more on their actual ages for milestones. Even babies born a couple of weeks early might need two more weeks to get where they need to be milestone/sleep wise I've read.

wow i can't believe we're almost 5 months!!! and i'm glad you posted this. i was wondering the same thing.

    this is what mine do:
-marina hates tummy time, ivana will do it and look at us like, "um, yeah... can we stop now?" lol. they WILL move their legs around and actually scoot a little (i don't think they realize what they're doing tho, they're just getting frustrated with being on their bellies)
-they love to sit up (with assistance)
-marina rolls from back to tummy, ivana did once or twice, we have no tummy to back
-they grab toys (marina more so than ivana), if they're in reach, but not if they're onthe floor next to them. they're more interested in their feet or each other's hands then
-marina tries to stand (with assistance)
-they grab their feet and are trying to put them intheir mouths
-ivana can hold her own bottle for a few minutes, marina can't really do that
-i THINK they respond to their names, but sometimes i think they just turn their heads cuz they heard me talking lol
-certain songs i sing make them smile every time i sing them (5 Little Speckled Frogs has become 20 Little Speckled Frogs just to keep the song going so ivana will stop fussing and finish a bottle! )
-and like cohlee said, i'll put themdown one way, come back a few minutes later and they'll be in opposite directions!

    hope that made sense

Mine will be 5 months on the 23rd and aren't doing much either. In fact, I've had the exact same concerns.

    - Candace will roll from her back to tummy all the time, Cassidy STILL hasn't rolled either way and shows no interest in doing so!

    - They can rotate themselves around when lying on their backs under the playmat.

    - Candace will grab anything she sees and put it in her mouth. Cassidy will grab select objects if you offer them to her, but doesn't hold on to them for long.

    - Candace is obsessed with her feet and toes and will play with them and chew on them, Cassidy notices hers sometimes.

    - They both smile, coo and laugh.

    - They don't mind tummy time as much as they used to, but they don't love it either.

From reading what everyone else has written, I guess mine may be a little slower, but I'm not worried. I know they are still within the normal range and will do things when they're ready!

Thanks everyone for all of your replies. It sounds like my girls do pretty much everyone else's are for the most part. When I leave my girls one way on the mat I will come back and they will be turned around also. They also love to sit up and just recently can sit supported with a boppy pillow for a short time. I also have to remember that they were 5 weeks early so their adjusted age they are not even 4 months yet. I am just a spaz. Once again thank you everyone.
