Annie just had her physical for preschool yesterday. She's 4 1/2 and is 35.7 pounds. She desperately wants to be 40 pounds so we can take the straps off her car seat and make it a booster, that's the weight the car seat says kids should be before making it into a booster.

Personally I'm in no hurry to remove the straps, but it would be nice to have less buckles to do. Any other 4yos still using a car seat? Thanks!

Jack and Ally are 4 1/2, and they are tall enough and heavy enough to go with plain boosters. However, I opted to buy seats that allow the 5pt harness to be used up to 65lbs. I just feel better with them securely fastened.

My oldest dd Madison will be 7 on the 14th. She weighs almost 39 pounds. When she started kindergarden we just put her in a booster. We figured at that age she would be good plus its hard on them and kinda embarresing when they are in school and still in a "little kid" seat. My dh and I are always telling people that with the law that says they need to be 80 pounds before they can ride without a booster she is going to be going to prom in a booster.
I have a feeling my 3 year old dd will be the same way. She is around 32 pounds right now. lol!!! My 1 year old ds is almost the same size as she is (he weighs 26). I have little girls! :D

Tiffany...I have little girls too! Annie's stats are in my original post, Joey (2 1/2) is probably around 25 pounds and wears size 18 months clothes. Ellie is 16 months, maybe 20 pounds, and wears size 6-9 month clothes. Little girls rock!!!

I agree about the booster seat thing too. The signs around here in MI say kids sholud be in a booster until they're 4'9"; well, I should be in one then too because I'm 4'8"!!

I have a friend like that....I think she is only about 4'8" too. There is no way she is over 5'. lol!!
Your kids are about the same as mine. Zach my son is 15 months old and in 18 months clothes. Hailey (my 3 year old) still has a pair of size 18 month pants she can wear. lol!!
Madison gets so upset because she says kids call her small at school. I just say some day you will LOVE IT!!!!
I like having tiny girls. With them I dont have the problem of them only getting to wear clothes a couple of times and then them growing out of them. ;)

31 and 34 lbs here at 4 years a long way to go, they are asking about the seatbelt too, I keep saying maybe next year (although 40lbs seems a long way off haha).

I am new to this board....My girls just turned one!
However, I have two different things to mention....don't forget to check the height limits as well as the weight limits. Just because they are not 40lbs, does not mean they have not met the height limits. My three almost four year old met the height requirement on her 5pt harness booster seat a while back...though she had almost 10lbs to go on the weight limit. Same thing has happened with the infant seat and the toddler seat.
Also...my nephew packed on the pounds when he found out that he had to weigh a certain amount before he was allowed by law out of the booster seat. It was not until the love handles started forming, and the constant talk about how much he weighed to his mother, before my sister realized what he was doing.

My boys will be 5 in August and are still in car seats. They are around 35 lbs each. My oldest went to a booster when he was 6 and will probalby still be in one by the time he goes to high school! :)

Yes, Kayla was 5 before we removed the 5 point from her high back and just used the regular seatbelt.

My boys are almost 4.5 & still use the highback boosters with the 5 point harness. They were 39 lbs at their last Dr visit.

Thanks for the reminder about the height. I will certainly check, but I doubt she's tall enough either! I told her last night that I knew of lots of other kids who were 4 and still using the harness. That made her feel better!

Tell her n ot to feel bad - my girls turned 3 last week & are still rear-facing! I will keep my kids as protected as possible for as long as possible. I couldn't care less what the other kids in kindergarden say!

Mine are 4.5, and weigh about 32 lbs, and they're very short. They are still in carseats. I know they won't make height before weight (it'll be weight before height for sure), so they're in the seats until 40 lbs. You are not the only one. They do face fwd, though.

My girls are still in their carseats. They almost weigh 35 lbs. I'm sure they will be in them at least for another year.

Wow, my DD is 2.5 and weighs 35 lbs and she is 36 inches. We were just looking at a booster seat with a 5pt harness. As long as DD and DS are in some form of car seat, it will only have the 5pt harness. I have heard some horror stories about kids in booster seats without the 5pt harness. It just isn't safe.
It actually makes me wonder how we all survived without carseats?? I remember laying up on the back part of the car above the seats while my Dad drove 70mph down the interstate!

We just bought my older DD a Sunshine Kids Radian65 carseat and she is 3.5. It's a 5pt harness and harnesses until 65 lbs and I forget the height. I plan on keeping her in it until she is at least 5.5-6yrs old. She weighs 37# right now. It's safe for her.
