I posted yesterday about my girls not sttn since the weekend. They've been sleeping through the night for 2 months now and all of sudden won't sleep through the night. They're 18 weeks/4months old..I assume it has something to do with the 4 month sleep regression? Does anyone know how long it lasts for? Will we have to retrain them again to sttn? VERY FRUSTRATING!

I read somewhere that it can last up to a month. My girls are 5.5 months and they are still fighting their naps. It's a lot better than it was when they were four months. A lot of gals on this website have said that it gets much better at 6 months.

I'm going through the same thing. MY DD was sleeping 10 to 12 hours a night and my DS was sleeping 8. But now my DS is up 4 times a night, and is really difficult to put back to sleep in his crib!! Mind you he sleeps great if I bring him to bed with me. My DD is only up once or twice. I have heard that with all the new stuff they are learning (rolling over, ect) along with a growth spurt that that is why they find it harder to sleep and want to eat more.
I actually felt like last night was a good night because I was 'only' up at 9:30, 11:30, 1:30, 3:30 and finally 5:30.

I have started my guys on rice cereal in the hopes that it will help them sleep a little better.

I have been told that only time will solve these sleep problems. Fingers crossed for both of us that it's over soon!!

It happened to my LO's too. They used to nap and sleep at night SO good until they hit 4 months old. Since then they only nap for approx. 45 min each time and they wake up a few times at night. I was told that is one of a sign that they are ready for solid, so I started them on cereal (just a little)hoping it will help. They only took so little to where I didn't notice the diff. in their sleeping pattern. But I noticed when they eat a lot they do sleep better. Anyway, they are 6 mos old now and for the past couple weeks they've sleeping much better on a consistent basis( :hush: keep my finger crossed). So hang in there, it will get better. :)

How long it takes probably will depend on what's causing it. New tooth? Probably as soon as it breaks through. Developmental milestones? Might take a bit longer. It's hard to say, but I hope it's a short phase! As far as retraining them goes, with my kids we did have to retrain them a bit but it didn't take near as long as the initial training.

amongst all the other possibilities, in HSHHC, he mentions that it's around 4 months that babies sleep cycles also do a sudden shift & become more adult like - it can cause havoc during the light sleep portion of the cycle as the babies adjust. they are, in essence, having to re-learn how to STTN. i would say that if you're sure it isn't anything else (tooth, illness), that you would be fine to do some more sleep training. as PP mentioned, it's usually not as tough when you're re-training. GL!

We had problems with sleep regression at about 5 months. (They started STTN at 3 months). Now sometimes they sleep through and other times they are up once or twice a night. Napping has been a huge challenge, but it always has been for us. If you don't think they are hungry, you could try ignoring their cries. I hope it gets better!

We took a turn for the worst at the same age, was just awful. We had to do CIO at 5.5mths as things weren't improving. I hope this is a short stage for your family!!

There's a very interesting book called "The Wonder Weeks: How to Turn Your Baby's 8 Great Fussy Phases into Magical Leaps Forward" by Vanderijt and Plooij. According to their neurological development calendar, around the 15 week mark to about wk 19, babies head into one of their period of intense brain work. This can disrupt their sleep, eating, equilibrium, everything. My babies are in that right now.
