I know this topic has been discussed in here before but wanted some advice. . . My LOs are about 4 mth adjusted and have been sleeping WONDERFULLY! until this week. My DS has been waking up thinking he's hungry but then not eating. Could this be the dreaded 4 mth regression?? Is there such a thing?

I have heard of it . My DD did the same thing at 4 months. After one or two nights of trying to feed her and she didnt take very much I left her and she went back to sleep and stopped waking up the following nights. When she learned to roll over on her belly that messed up her sleeping for a few nights too. If they are not eating I would try leaving them for 15-20 mins and see if they go back down.

from HSSHC: "After four months of age, an infant's sleep becomes more adultlike. Infants younger than this enter sleep with a REM sleep period, but around this age they begin to enter sleep with a non-REM sleep period, like adults. Sleep cycling, from deep to light non-REM sleep with interruptions of REM sleep, also matures into adultlike patterns around four months of age."

this shift is basically what causes the 4 month sleep regression. i would agree with PP to try & give your little guy some time at night to put himself back to sleep before going in & when you do go in, to try other soothing methods rather than feeding. try to keep interaction to a minimum & he should be back to his regular sleeping in no time. GL!

Yeah, it's real, at least in my house! I've found the naps have been more affected, but we had about a week of a lot of nighttime wake ups. (my two were born at 35 weeks, and are now 18 weeks).

We had a slight regression around this time, but it didn't last long...that's the good news, it won't last...the bad...something else will keep them up (being sick, teething)....such is the life with babies!!!

Ours was on and off for about a month around that time 4.5 - 5.5 months. It was horrible [for me]. I went a couple days with getting no more than 4 hrs of sleep [they woke up about 3-4 times each!] and then had to take care of them during the day. By the third day I was so frustrated at night - dreading waking up and what do you know? They slept until 0600 the next morning! Couldn't have been better timing. I think I would have exploded out of frustration/sleep deprivation if I had another night like that
