We've had a stomach virus at our house this weekend - me, DH, 4yo, 2yo & 4mo twins. All of us are doing better except the twins. Emily especially. She hasn't kept food down for 2 days. I've tried calling our dr, but can't get thru on her pager. What should I do? My other kids never got sick and I don't know how long is too long to wait. BTW, the twins have their 4mo WBV tomorrow morning. Any advice is appreciated!

    TIA!

    Is she wetting diapers?

I haven't had a baby with a virus yet so I'm afraid I'm not much help. I would guess that if you think she is starting to dehydrate you need to take her to the ER.

The PP made a good point... Are you counting wet diapers? Is she still alert, happy? Or sleeping all the time?

You need to worry about dehydration. I would take her to a hospital emerg if you can't get in touch with your regular doctor.

Better to be safe than sorry!!!

I am just echoing the pp about watching for dehydration. Make sure she is wetting diapers. Watch for sunken soft spot and eyes. Babies can dehydrate quickly. If you are concerned, I would take her to the ER or after hours clinic just to have her evaluated.

You could always fill a syringe with the milk and give it to her every few minutes to make sure she stays hydrated also you can do pedialyte I think about an oz. at a time.

I wasn't sure about the pedialyte. She seems to be better. Totally happy, smiling, laughing all the time. She's having really poopy diapers, which makes it hard to tell if she's peeing or not. How much pedialyte is too much/enough? Thanks for all your advice!

My SIL's 2 month old baby just went through this and the dr. told her pedialyte 1 oz every hour. She did this until she stopped throwing up then she was told 2oz of formula mixed with 1oz of pedialyte every 2 hours. until she could hold all of that down.

    Update:

I finally got thru to the dr. She said to mix formula with the pedialyte instead of water, so that's what we are doing now. They don't act like they feel bad. Just every once in a while they get the diapers from satan! Thanks for the help!
