4 month check up

Today my boys had their 4 month old checkups. They did well with the shots which was good. They screamed, but quickly settled down. At birth Nicholas weighed 6lbs13oz and today he weighs in at 13lbs12oz. Anthony weighed 6lbs3oz and today was 13lbs even. Nicholas is 50% for height an 25% for weight. Anthony is 5% for height and 10% for weight. And we got the go ahead for solids-that's a whole other topic!

    On to the "problems."

Nicholas has torticollis-which I had a feeling he did when I saw someone else post about it here. Dr. didn't think it was too bad at 2 month checkup, but now says we need to do Early Intervention. No problem. It can be fixed.

Then Dr. asked if we thought Anthony's head was growing a lot. Well, I don't know-I am with him 24/7. But with that question, I knew something was brewing. So he showed us the curve for his circumference and he went from like 50% or so at 2 months to over 90/95% at 4 months. He re-measured to make sure the nurse was right, and he actually got a bigger measurement! So now we need to go have a CT scan on March 13. It could be hereditary(dh's family have big heads), or it could mean something else. Fluid, etc... I googled and now I wish I didn't. I think I am calling the Dr. tomorrow to get some reassurance. I can't last 2 weeks. Basically what I found is it could be mental retardation, delays, etc... He has already rolled over and overall seems right on track with milestones.

This child at my first u/s was in a small sac and we were told he might not make it(this was 7 weeks or so). Eventually sac size didn't matter and he caught up.
Then at 11 weeks we were told there was a 1 in 49 chance he had Down's. He doesn't-they did a chromosomal test while he was in the NICU.
He spent 7 days in the NICU for fluid on the lungs and couldn't rule out pneumonia-so they treated him for it.
He has a sacral dimple-and ruled out spina bifida-MRI came back clear.
He has hypospadias and will have surgery at 9 months to correct it.

I feel like he's been through so much already. And now there's something else to worry about. He is an absolutely beautiful child and obviously we love him regardless. I call him-and his brother-my miracle boys because it took us 4 years to conceive them and 4 ivf's. You would think after everything we go through to get pregnant-that once they are here all is well...

If you got this far-thanks for listening!

    Here's my HAPPY child!

:hug99: First off, your little men are adorable! What great big smiles they have. You are right, stay away from google, that will only add onto your stress and worry. :hug99: The torticollis is very fixable, so that is one less thing to worry about. I'm hoping that maybe two months ago they didn't measure his head right and that's why they are having such an increase in numbers. Either way, I think it's good your doctor is making sure it's nothing more serious, and having the scan done. :hug99: I'm sorry you have to have this worry on you right now, I'm hoping everything is okay and that the next two weeks pass really {really} quick for you.

What adorable boys! FWIW, my friend's baby had a big head and he was a peanut when he was born. Somewhere around 4-5 months it grew and grew. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him and he has grown into his head. Seriously, he was almost off the charts with head circumference. It is good you are have it checked, but I know the waiting must be terrible. Keep us posted!

STEP AWAY FROM GOOGLE! lol....It will drive you nuts. I do the same thing all the time. :hug99: I'm sure it'll be fine! He had a lot of testing done already and they proved normal, so that alone rules out a lot of things. My DD's got a big head too...Big heads are in my family!

Good luck with everything and *try* not to be nervous :FIFblush:

Hey, I'm in the same boat. My ped said one of my dd's will have to have a scan if her head continues on this growth curve. I asked why we shouldn't just do it now so I don't have to wait for 2 months but she said she's just on the cusp. I've googled and gone a bit crazy with the whole thing. I even called the pediatrician to go over what we talked about again to make sure I had it all correct. My DH finally said "You know her better than anyone...what does your gut tell you ....do you think somethings wrong?". For some reason it put my mind at ease because my gut really says nothings wrong and from reading your post...I think you're gut's telling you the same thing. I'm so sorry for the scare. Try to continue to enjoy everyday with your perfect (and adorable) little miracle boys!!!

P.S. My DS who is 14 had a HUGE head. His head was in the 75% with a little body in the 25% and they never batted an eye...I think this hydrocephalus thing is a newer alarm.

Those darn docs. They always get us worried. I hope Anthony's scan turns out just fine. My DS#2 had torticollus and a misshapen skull. I found a cranial sacral specialist who helped with the shape of his head. I also took him to a physical therapist to help relax those tight neck muscles. He had a very hard time laying flat or nursing on that side. But after a couple months he was all better. Good luck!

They are so cute, I would not worry so much they probably measured wrong at the 2 month. My 10 year old always measured in 90 percentile and nothing is wrong with him just a big head. Shirts had to be stretched at times to get on or off him.

I don't have any experience with your specific issues, but I do have a son who has been through much more than his brother. I've actually posted the same message on this board. I know it's hard and it comes with so many mixed feelings-pity, guilt, frustration, etc. One response that really helped me put things into perspective was that your "issue" baby doesn't know he's got issues and he will only feel helpless, sad, needy, if you make him feel that way. It's all in how we as parents treat the situation. I really believe everything will go well for your sons. You guys are in my prayers.
