Making this kind of a multi post. I hope that is ok. We had my LO's 4 month appointment yesterday (we were a week over) and it went really well. They are growing great:

    Walker:
    Weight: 14 lbs 3 oz (25-50th percentile)
    Length: 24 inches (25th percentile)

    Jocelyn:
    Weight: 12 lbs 11 oz (25th percentile)
    Length: 22 1/2 inches (5-10th percentile)

Doc was very pleased. Jocelyn's just a little peanut next to Walker. I told her we are making a slow switch to formula and my issues with WIC (saying they'll only do Enfamil when the munchkins will only take Similac). Our actual WIC appt is on Monday and she gave me a prescription for WIC to try to give it a shot and see if they'll let us do Similac anyway. We'll cross our fingers. Anyway she cleaned out their supply of Similac there at the office (powder and ready to feed) and gave us all that - probably equaled at least 80 bucks! It was SOOO nice. Then she called her Similac rep and they are shipping two cases to us as well. I feel very thankful. Doc also said we could start solids! I am so giddy. :D I completely enjoy solids for some reason. She said we could start with rice cereal, then go to oatmeal and stay with that for 2-3 weeks then we could start veggies and fruits (starting a new food every 3-4 days). We started cereal yesterday (of course we ran out to the store to get it right after the appt :D ) and they did great. It was so much fun. They both did the faces like what is this and what are we doing but after awhile Walker started sucking it off the spoon and getting mad when I had to refill it. :) Jocelyn thought it was quite the game and did a lot of smiling and laughing. They did a bit better today. DH helped today and he was getting a little frustrated and I had to explain this is really more of a learning experience for them then actually getting the calories in at this point in the game and we're supposed to make it fun and enjoyable - so NO stressing out. :) After that he had a little more fun with it. I think I like it way more than he does. He didn't like the mess - I thought that was the best part. Ah well.... I'll probably be doing most of the feedings right now anyway. ;)

There's a couple pictures and a video of them having their first solids on my blog:

Quick question on solids - when you first started - how much/many times a day did you feed them? The DR said to start with a teaspoon of cereal so that's what we've done. How many times a day do you feed them? When do you start moving up to more? When they want more I guess?? :)

We started cereal at 6 months. Didn't feel the need before then.. it is just practice. Start out with just one meal a day because their main source of nutrition should still be formula/breastmilk. AT 4 months they still may not be ready. Have fun! Sounds like you had a great appt.

Breastmilk/formula is the primary concern, it has WAY more fat and calories that growing babies need, so just a little solids here and there at that age is all you should do. I did not start solids until 6 months and did one meal a day until 8 months.

ADORABLE BABIES  I hope you get the formula you requested with WIC. At one point, we tried to switch formula's even with a doctors note and it wasn't granted <_< Let us know how it turns out!

They are so cute Lisa! We started solids at 4 months and were on 3 meals by 6 months, if I am remembering correctly. Sounds like they are doing great!

We started solids at about 4 months but they really werent consistent eaters until about 5.5 months. We did 1 meal until 7 months and then 2 until 9 months. GL and have fun.

    Adorable!

I started solids at 4.5 months...just one meal until 5/6 months, then up to two, and from there up to three.

Our Dr had us start solids at 4 months also. Cereal once a day for two weeks, then twice/day for two more weeks. At 5 months add vegetables for a third meal and at 6 months we are supposed to start fruits. I know a lot of people say to wait, but I'm following what my Dr says. She was recommended to me by the staff of the NICU so I feel comfortable with what she suggests. They don't eat very much at each meal, and still get all of the formula that they need. I always feed the solids about 30-45 mins after their bottles, so that it doesn't interfere with how much formula they drink.

Wow! They are so cute. :) We started solids at 4 months and we did 1TBSP once/day of cereal until about 5.5 months when we doubled that to twice/day and then slowly started introducing more veggies/fruits. I would usually give them the cereal after their morning nap since it had been about 1.5 hours since they had any formula and they generally seemed interested in eating it at that time. Have fun!!

What beautiful babies! That is so weird about their weights! My babies' weights at 4 1/2 months were - DS @ 14lbs 5 oz and DD was 12lbs 11 oz. Very similar to yours.

We're not planning on starting cereal until 6 months, but the babies have been on the verge of constipation so their pedi said to give them a 1 TBS of rice cereal mixed with milk and prune juice. Otherwise, we're waiting.

We didn't start solids until 6 months (the boys were 33weekers) and we did cereal once a day for two weeks then when we tried a veggie, we did cereal at breakfast and veggie at dinner. We did that until we introduced meat (maybe 8 months?) then we added that for lunch. My boys loved veggies! Have fun! It is messy, but I loved it too!
