4 is too young to be left alone with a glow stick

Bad mommy moment -- I let the girls take some of those glow bracelets to bed. I issued a stern warning against sticking them in the eyes, ears, nose, or mouth, and thought they both understood. Fast forward to half an hour after bedtime and an anguished wail from Amy. I run in and she is drooling like a rabid dog, spitting frantically, and crying. Yes, she bit the glow stick. :umm:

DH immediately ran to the computer to look up how toxic they are. (If he had been home at bedtime, he would never have let me give them to the girls in the first place.) Turns out they are classified as an irritant, but not a true poison. The treatment is just to flush with water and keep an eye on it to make sure she doesn't have a bad reaction. She's already going back to sleep, so I'm not too worried. But I dread the scolding I'm going to get from DH. :(

 The same thing happened to Tess when she was about 4. She cried for awhile but she was fine. Thank goodness the stuff in them isn't toxic!

Your DH sounds like mine. Hope the scolding wasn't too bad and you got out of it. :(

I never thought about them biting into them...this is something my two would do as they love to put things in their mouths all of the sudden.

DH was surprisingly easy on me. I think he was just relieved that they didn't turn out to be poisonous. He gave her a drink of milk (it helps to soothe the irritation) and she went right back to sleep. No after effects this morning.

 Glad to hear Amy is alright. Thanks for the warning. I don't think I would have thought of them biting them.

Oh bummer, no raves yet. :(

Seriously, though, yikes! Thanks for the heads up! I tend to cave and let them take all kinds of weird junk to bed, so that's a very good warning.

Seriously, wouldn't you think some common sense would have set in by now? Ainsley stuck a pen up her nose this morning. Thankfully, on DH's watch.
