Do any of you know of any additional risk associated w/3D or 4D?
I am scheduled to go in for my second ultrasound and they just got their 4D machine in and advised that will be what they are using. I am very excited to see the babies again and the quality of the images, but want to see if there is any info that anyone has about this since it is a relatively new thing(recent years). The tech told me that there is no additional risk to the babies, but I like to ask my girls(thats you guys).
    hehe

I don't know for sure, but I haven't heard of any additional risk. 3D/4D ultrasound seems to have the advantage of catching such things as cleft palate and other such "deformities," but, other than that, many doctors feel they are just for entertainment purposes. You can still see the most important things (size, fluids, dopplers, etc.) via regular ultrasound. Maybe someone else has more information, because the actual ultrasound 'rays' may be different than 2D ultrasounds.

We had 3D ultrasounds at 13 weeks and 20 weeks with my last pregnancy (but they do 2D during the ultrasound as well). It seemed like the sonographer was more interested in getting a "good" face shot of the babies, instead of the more important things. So just make sure they check everything else well, too. I haven't heard of any additional risks, but I did ask my ob if I'd be getting any 3d or 4d ultrasounds and she said they don't really help anymore than the regular ultrasounds, and the cost is much higher. I was a bit bummed--because I wanted one of those good face shots! Oh well....I just tell myself seeing their faces in person will be much better anyways! Good luck and have fun with yours.

I was told that there is neither any additional risk than any additional medical use in it, as they can´t see any problems they couldn´t see in normal U/S - of course I did it anyway, because - just like you, I was soooo eager to see my boys.

Anyway, don´t put your expectations too high, because when I was there, they couldn´t hardly see anything, because it was too crowded and my boys always turned away. I was 27 weeks then, and all I saw was one foot of Miro.

Because I had to lie on my back still all the time, I nearly fainted, and that wasn´t nice at all. [IMG]

But maybe you´ll be lucky - I´ve heard from people who got a beautifull pic of their babies [IMG]

Like pp mentioned 3d/4d u/s are often used for entertainment and don't actually provide any medical advantage to the regular u/s. Also, because there are 2 babies, you might not get a good view of either one. Here is a good article that talks about the risks.
