38 week appt today

Grrrr.. All those contractions these past couple weeks and I'm still 1 cm. The doctor messed around with my cervix a little which mainly has resulted in some cramping down there - that's it. Being Military, our family had to plan their trip out to see our little guy in advance and because I have 2 due dates, they will be here next Friday... I sure hope he comes by then so they can enjoy the baby for a week!!! I guess I better start walking!

Any other tips to maybe get things started so I progress a little more quickly? Any at home techniques work for some of you? I know not all people have such luck with natural ways to induce but I'll give almost anything a shot. I just would rather figure out what might be best to truy out first. Thanks!!

I had contractions for WEEKS (I'm talking every 2-3 minute ones) and was barely a finger tip dilated at 40w4d (when I was induced.). Nothing changed my cervix except for the little tablet they put in for my induction (don't remember which drug it was). But, the good news was I didn't need pitocin. Once my cervix was softened by that medicine my body took over and did the rest of the work...although, she was too big to come out by herself and needed forceps. I opted for induction at 40+4 as opposed to waiting the extra few days to see what my body would do. Im' glad I did because she was nearly 11 lbs as it was and I likely would have ended up with a c/s.

 

11lbs?!?!?! Bless your heart!! That's amazing AS of last week, he measured at around 7 lbs so I am hoping he doesn't go much over 8 by the time he is born. Did they know your daughter was going to be 11 lbs or was it a surprise? That happens, I know.

Well my cervix isn't really soft but it isn't really firm either so we plan to try sex and walking to induce the labor. I refuse to swallow castor oil, mainly because I can't stand going to the bathroom as it is. :lol:

 

Way, WAY, WAY too much TMI - but play with your nipples. Stimulate them as much as possible for a long time. This is how I got my second DD out and my best friend got hers out. I have heard some people say they use the breast pump. I just brushed them back and forth for 20 min or so and started having my first contractions ever with that pregnancy. 6 hrs later she was here...don't tell anyone!

I thought she was going to be big (I was huge...almost as big as I was with the twins and I was all belly) but all three midwives (and they tend to be pretty good at estimates) said 8.5-9 lbs. Well, I guess mama knows best, right? When she was finally born and they weighed her, I was like "I told you so!!!!". LOL. First they had to help her head out with forceps and then her shoulders got stuck! ugh. Thank GOD for the epidural.
