I'm just shy of 36 weeks and went in today for my weekly checkup with my OB. I mentioned that I almost headed to L&D last night because of frequent, intense contractions. So, my OB hooked me up to the NST and found that I'm contracting every 7 minutes. When he checked my cervix, he found that I'm 100% closed and 50% effaced. Is/Has anyone experienced contractions this frequently but not progressing? I want to make it to 38 weeks but I'm concerned that my contractions will trigger labor.

I was contracting every 2 minutes at 29 weeks and didn't deliver until 36 1/2. I think your goal is still very probable but if for any reason it doesn't happen, you have surpassed some major milestones! Fantastic job Momma!

Some evenings I have alot of BH contractions...but they never really get more intense. If I drink alot of water and just sit around for a while, they usually teeder off. You should be able to make it to 38 weeks....its always good to set a good goal for yourself anyways.

    All the best to you!

I contract constantly (Braxton Hicks) with no changes and have for the past month or two. I just started noticing a difference in my contrax. as they are now more menstrual-like...these have finally started to cause me to efface a bit and at last check I was about 50% effaced and only fingertip dialated. As far as I understand this can last for a while also without changing too much.

Anyway, my point in my braxton hicks could be as frequent as every 8 minutes and they never changed a thing and I am still going strong at 37.5 weeks.

With the twins I was contacting every 4 minutes at 25 weeks. I was put on bedrest & about 2 weeks later started taking meds. Delivered the boys at 36 weeks. I just started having a few contrax with this one, but not too worried this time around.

Hang in there - you are doing great!

you absolutely can contract with no cervical changes. I started contracting at 20.5w and now at 28w still no changes. They are frequent, and are sometimes strong. I can have anywhere from 4-12 an hour and take medication to control them, but even so, you can contract for a long time with no real labor. I had no idea. I thought preterm contractions equalled preterm labor. I was wrong.

I was constantly contracting from about 30 weeks on. I delivered at 34w1d. I spent almost 4 weeks on hospital bedrest b/c of my contractions and they wanted to continuously monitor me. That being said...I was 1 cm dilated at 27 weeks (placed on home bedrest) and didn't dilate more until around 32 weeks when I was 2 cm and 100% effaced. By the time they couldn't stop the contrax anymore, I was 4-5 cm and 100% effaced...that's when I had my c-section.

I didn't have anything more than Braxton Hicks contractions with the twins but I had lots of contractions with my singleton from about 36 weeks on. When I went in for my inductions at 41 weeks 5 days, I was still only 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced.

I'm 36 weeks right now and at my doctor's appointment yesterday I was told that I am 2 cm's dilated and 50% effaced. My doctor is thinking that I will have the babies on the weekend. I have been having BH's contractions for a long time now. None of the contractions have been regular or painful. I am not sure what is going to happen since labor is so unpredictable.

I'm sure you will make it to 38 weeks. I have been praying that I will make it to 38 weeks as well.
