So, today I went for an NST. Baby B- who is usually our active one- did not cooperate, so I got a surprise BPP- my second BPP of the week.

For some reason, when I have BPPs done at the satellite office where I see the OB, they have contracted an outside company to do u/s work, and the tech doesn't tell me how much the babies weigh. In fact, she told me that they couldn't determine that from a BPP. But when I had a BPP with ODD, they gave us a weight..... so I was a little confused as to why this tech couldn't give me a weight.

Anyway, I had my NST at the hospital office because they are the ones with a twin machine. When I had the BPP, this tech was able to give me a weight. She said the twins were measuring small- A is 5lbs1oz and B is 5lbs even. I spoke with the OB on call, and she didn't seem particularly concerned especially since I am petite.

I checked the gestational weights via u/s chart, and they do seem a little on the small side. FTR, at my last growth u/s about a month ago, A was 4lbs2oz and B was 4lbs4oz.

I do plan on discussing this with my OB when I have my appt on Tuesday, but is there anything I can do to give my girls a helping hand?

    Thanks so much!

They are not accurate. I thought my boys would be less than 5 based on ultrasounds and they were 5lbs 4oz and 6 lbs. Don't worry.

I don't know whether you should be concerned or not. When I was born I weighed 4lbs 6oz and my twin was about 5lbs and we were born a month early. My cousins girlfriend had a baby that was very tiny and she was very tiny as well. So I think it will be alright as long as everything else is developing normally. Once they are born they will catch up. Good luck!:)

u/s can be off by up to a pound in either direction. I had an u/s the day I had my DD and was told she was 6lbs 8oz. She was only 5lbs 10oz. My friend was told her son was 4lbs 2oz at an u/s two days before she had him and he was 6lbs even.

I have the same problem as you Baby Mo, on May 15th both babies were measuring barely 4lbs 4oz. Granted my belly has gotten bigger, but Ive tried to be less mobile since then to maybe give them an extra boost in the weight department. I lay around more, sleep more, take mega naps.
When I was weighed last Friday, I had gained almost 5lbs, the most weight I've ever gained from one week to the next. And they didnt think it was water weight, no protein in my urine.

Im petite as well, I just want my babies to come home with me, and everyone to be healthy. Granted I know there's no guarantee, and Im to be induced next week at 36 wks 4/5 days. Ive heard the stories that if twins are small or if a baby is small they have to be like 5lbs or more before the hospital will allow them to come home. I was a small baby born 4lbs 3oz but lost down to 3lbs and some odd oz before I came home. Lets just pray and hope for the best..

they are not accurate!! and even if they were, those are almost the exact weights of my girls when I had them at 36 weeks!

    5lbs 1 oz and 5 lbs 4 oz! :) I dont' think that's super small at all!

Try not to worry too much mama! From what I hear u/s measurements can be off like others have said. Plus 5 pounds is pretty good. But if you're worried talk to your OB. Good luck!

I would not worry, you are doing great....Plus, you have just started to get to the point where they are really packing on the weight!

Mine were born at 36w3d at 5lbs and 5.8 lbs ... no NICU time! So you are fine!

Thanks for the reassurance, ladies. I did speak to an OB in the practice yesterday, and she didn't seem to concerned, but am not going to see my OB until Tuesday, I thought I'd check out what you ladies thought over the weekend.

If the solution to helping these babies get bigger involves milkshakes and taking it easy, count me in! ;)

Im a very petite mama. We expected our babies to be around the 6 pound mark based on our last ultrasound and the fact that *most* babies gain up to 1/2 pound per week.
When I finally delivery at 37w0d -- they were 5#4oz & 4#13oz --- Small yes, but healthy as could be. We left the hospital not even 48 hours after delivery! Sometimes great things come in small packages :) Just keeping eating your protein and dairy and try to relax :)

I bet you that those people are not accurate!!!That do not sound accurate compared to your last weights. And I agree with the PP's over 5 lbs. I think you will be fine-That's 10 lbs. of healthy baby you are carrying. So try not to worry-you'll see...I think that they are off!

I was told my girls were measuring small. The week before I went into labor, my OB said I needed to let mine bake as long as possible because at every U/S mine were always measuring too little. When I went into labor, my OB stood over me saying to prepare for little babies...we were only expecting them to be a little more than 4 lbs a piece because of what the u/s reports had said. When they delievered them they were almost 6 lbs a piece and they were a month early. I am proof that you can not always rely on the u/s reports. They are only estimates...that's all. They had me practically scared to death all the way through my pregnancy because my girls constantly measured small, but mine turned out fine. Hang in there, and remember, those measures are just estimates.
