Hi! I just wanted to update everyone! DH and I went in for another nonstress test today and the babies are doing fine! We then went to see our OB. He checked me today and we are 2cm dialated and he could feel our baby boys head! I gained 4 1/2 pounds in 2 weeks, and my blood pressure was good at 122/70. He thinks we will hang in there for another couple weeks, but said anything can happen with twins. He said he is not worried if they are born anytime now. If they could wait closer to 38 weeks, that would be best. He said if they come before that though, they should be healthy, but may need a little help with the breathing, but nothing to major. Baby boy is still head down and ready, and baby girl is still breech. Today, he did say that we could try having the boy naturally since he is head down, and then see what the girl does, but that we still may end up with a c-section because he would not want to deliver her breech, or try to turn her due to possible complications for the baby. I think that he thinks the safest and best is to have a c-section if she does not turn around. So, we are still waiting and seeing what happens. We go back weekly now, so next Thursday for another stress test and OB visit.

I would appreciate any input, thoughts, or advice regarding the delivery methods! Do you think she could still turn around? Are there any positions that I could try to give her more room in there to turn around? I am just feeling very tired, and not worth a whole lot! Have a great weekend!

I don't know any tried and true methods to turn a baby this late in the pregnancy, but I did want to ask if there's a reason why your doctor won't deliver the second baby vaginally if she's breech? All the research that I've seen shows that vaginal delivery is much healthier and safer for both babies and mom, unless you have other health complications. My OB and peri both said they would always attempt a vaginal delivery as long as Baby A is head down.

You might want to ask your OB why he suggests a C-section. Does he not have much experience doing twin births? Just a thought...

I had the same thought. My Baby A is head down and Baby B is breech and my OB is encouraging me to go for a vaginal delivery. He seems to feel it's no big deal to pull B out feet first and never mentioned any possible complications.

My Baby A was head down and my Baby B was breech. B/c B was measuring larger than A consistently at every ultrasound, my OB let me choose which delivery method I was more comfortable with. With B being larger, it meant that he had a better chance of getting stuck and having trouble (said my OB) and would then result in having one vaginally and one via c-section. I opted for the c/s and I'm glad I did - Alex (baby B ) was about a 1/2 a pound bigger than Sarah!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

To be very honest with you, I would not want to have to do a vaginal and c-section - sounds like if baby B does not come down perfectly head down that is what is going to happen for you, in that case I would opt c-section all the way and just get it over with. That way you do not have to go through a long labor - vaginal delivery and possible emergency c-section.
I am all for vaginal deliveries but w/ twins I just would not chance it - but that's just me!

My baby B turned right at 36 weeks. (Then the little stinker went breech again after her sister was born!) I did try some of the crazy things I read on line, but I think she really just wanted to flip.

If your OB won't attempt a breech delivery, I would opt for a section. It would be awful to have both, you know? Goodluck! :)

Have you had other children? A breech vaginal delivery may be easier in the case of an experienced mom (as the hips have been tested, proven, etc.), and you could also ask your doc about head sizes, est. weights to see if that might also increase his likelihood of attempting a breech delivery.

Personally, if both weren't head down at delivery time, I'd go with the c-section just to avoid any complications that may come from attempting a breech delivery with the second.

Ditto this. I didn't want to risk having to recover from both a vaginal delivery and a C-section. For me, Baby A was head up and Baby B was head down. My OB was more comfortable doing a C, but he left the decision completely up to us. He told us that too many times he'd had to do an emergency C for Baby B who was breech and never turned. I opted for the C-section, and I'm glad I did. No complications whatsoever.

Different doctors have different comfort levels and experiences. Mine is comfortable with delivering Baby B breech or doing an internal version if necessary, and says he's never needed to do a c-section for the second baby.

However, I don't think I'd want to talk a doctor into trying something he didn't know how to do. If you really want a vaginal delivery, you might have to look for someone who is comfortable handling a breech Baby B. I do really want a vaginal delivery; I've had both kinds and do not want to be dealing with c-section recovery and two new babies at the same time. So I switched doctors to get one who was willing to handle the kind of delivery I wanted.

Of course, the baby might turn even at the last minute; and conversely, a vertex baby might turn breech when Baby A gets out of the way.

If you want to work on baby position yourself, you might try the exercises at Spinning Babies. I have found them helpful just from the standpoint of comfort, and my babies have moved from both transverse to vertex/breech.
