My doc told me that if I were to go into labor at 34+ wks they wouldn't stop the labor, but is that still too early? I was just wondering if that was standard or what? Right now my boys are weighing just over 3 lbs each, and 34 wks in in two wks. I know a lot can happen in two weeks, but is it enough to have a safe delivery?

I posted on the same topic after my doc told me the same thing. Here is a link 34 week delivery? It looks like that is the way it works at most hospitals.

That was standard at my hospital too... most 34 weekers have some NICU or step-down nursery time, but few major health problems from what I've heard.

My doctor is just hoping we make it to 34 weeks! Thats our goal :) They may have to stay in the NICU, they may not. The Babies are viable, but of course will be little. But over all 34 weekers have little health issues.

GOOD LUCK! Keep them in the 'oven' as LONG as possible!! HUGS!

Yes, like others have stated, that is standard.

Our twins were born at 34w4d and did not need NICU time. There are other babies here born at the same time, that needed 3 weeks in the NICU. So it really varies. I had been given the steroid shots at 28 weeks, so I am not sure if that made a difference or not. But they were tiny, sluggish eaters, and slept around the clock for a good month!

I am currently in the hospital having my labor stopped at 34 weeks. I came in with contractions on wed and they said they wanted to try and keep labor off so I could get the steroid shots. I got the two shots and I started contracting again last night and they said the steroid shots were good so they wouldn't be very agressive with stopping labor. However, they upped the magnesium and it is stopping my ctrx's.

My Dr's goal was 34 weeks as well, but I made it to almost 38!
It is definitely standard not to stop labor at that .
Good Luck & stay rested/hydrated and relaxed as possible!!! :)

My doctor once said the goal was to get twin moms to 34 weeks but he would stop labor before 36 weeks. 34 weeks is a milestone- lung maturation happens then. 32 weeks is an awesome place also, btw!! so congratulations!

Mine were born at 34 weeks .. one had a few days of NICU the other was fine. So I think its a fine line between being a tad early and just in time .. kwim ?
